    Angry One Unhappy Customer.....

I really do appreciate all the help the Scan guys on Hexus have given me - but i have just reached the end of my teather.

On the 28th September, i received the bits for my new PC from scan.... put them all together and encountered a problem with XP throwing up a blue screen on installation (just after caching the drivers during install).

After a day or so of troubleshooting, i contacted Scan technical support, who claimed the fault was with the memory. I explained that i had swapped the memory with the memory from my existing machine and had run memtest with no faults found. He said it was the memory.... (joking aside - this bloke was not the most helpful bloke I have ever spoken to).

However, i rang back and spoke to Dylan (who in contrast was very helpful) - he sugested that as i had eliminated all i could (HDD,Memory etc) it would be an idea to return the CPU & MB for testing. This i did - only to be informed later on that week that there was no fault found with these.

I then spoke to the support guys again, who suggested that i send in the memory for testing - which i then did at my own cost. On Friday of last week i found that the memory had also passed testing . Assuming it must have been something i had done wrong, I requested that the tested parts be sent back to me for a Saturday delivery.

These were recieved this morning and with some trepidation - installed them again... and guess what - same fault

To say I am a little miffed would be an understatement. So far, this sorry saga has cost me £40 in returns and NFF charges - yet after 2 weeks, still i am without a working machine.

    Tested equipment:

    CPU
    MB
    Memory
HDD (works in my other machine)

FYI I have 10 years + experience of putting PC's together - I have also spent about 3 hours this afternoon with a friend of mine (who also has 10 years + experience of PC building) going over everything (just to check i wasn't going mad), with the same end result.

    THIS IS NOT USER ERROR!!!

I would like to know what can be done to resolve this issue - because atm I am inches from driving up to Bolton and having a real tantrum

    Regards

p.s - I am out on the road all day on Monday, and will be unable to respond to any posts/messages - I have included my mobile number on the mail i have just send Scan support - I would be grateful if you could get in contact using that number.

p.p.s Sorry for having a rant - but I am on the verge of a nervous breadown with this one!

I'm not available on Monday morning to look into this for you, but I know one of my colleagues certainly will.

Hope we can get something resolved for you asap.

Have you tried installing another copy of Windows/OS? Probably not this, but worth a try I guess

Thanks David - I would really appreciate it.

As for differenct XP disks - I have tried everthing i know - IDE HDD's different SATA cables - different combinations of all sorts. It is driving me insane!

Honestly - there are only two things i can assume may be a problem - the graphics card (?) or the PSU... both are long shots as the PSU voltages are all fine and the GPU works (at least to some extent) as i can see things!

i had a machine that did the same thing and I fixed it by just using one stick of ram when installing XP. after installation putting the other stick in and setting them up as usual.

    worked fine.

    The original thread was http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=56301

TBH guys, i really have tried everything there is to try - different memory - different combinations of memory. After hours of trying, it simply has to be a hardware fault of some description.

My friend who tried to hel me out yesterday has the same board etc..... we agreed there was nothing wrong with the install of the hardware and both tried several combinations to try and get it to work.

Bottom line - its a hardware fault.

    Thanks anyway.

But what exactly do you think is at fault? If scan have tested mobo cpu and ram then only possibilities left are HDD psu gpu, it aint gonna be the gpu and you reckon its not the hdd, id be amazed if it was the psu (assuming its a decent one) so waht exactly do you want scan to do?
    Edit:
Have you tried different sata ports? REading your other thread ive seen similar issues when people have raid only ports on the mobo, are there 2 banks? try using the other set.

I have tried ALL the SATA ports.

As for Scan - I expect them to have supplied goods that work.

Memory aside (what brand is it btw?) would you be able to test the CPU in another mobo. I've also had XP bsoding when 2 sticks were installed. I yanked out one and whoopee it worked. Was very strange...

My last 2 builds resulted in a BSOD before windows format. I resolved them through the bios (memory timings, fsb, update bios) and loading the right sata drivers (the supplied disk didn't work).

Correct me if I'm wrong but all scans goods come directly from their Distributors/Manufacturers sealed. If your motherboard for example arrives DOA then it isn't scans fault.

Yes - I would agree, had it not been returned NFF, having been tested by scan with the CPU and memory - had it been a bios issue, i am sure the testers at scan would have highlighted that fact.

This one is a real weird one. However, having been a customer care consultant for six years, i expect assistance from my supplier with regards to issues with the goods they have supplied.

I HAVE recieved a good service in respect of this from scan, though the fault remains - along with the bill for the NFF's.

Just imagine you were in my shoes for a minute - you have spent £1300 + on a new system - two weeks after reporting the fault it is still unresolved.... how would you feel?

I don't think i am being unreasonable in asking for a little extra help with this one.

Im not saying you're being unreasonable, im jsut asking what you expect scan to do, if they have tested everything NFF then what more do you expect?
