Question New Tagan PSU making funny sound

Got a Tagan Easycon 480W PSU a few weeks ago, finally assembled my machine but PSU seems to be making a sqweeking sound (not all the time though). I wanted something quiet and modular which is why I purchased this Tagan PSU.

Operationally the PSU is fine BUT I can hear the noise above the other fans in my machine and isolated the noise to being the PSU. It does my head in when the house is quiet, my machine is 'fairly' quiet except the PSU. What are my options?

    Hi,

Sounds silly but have you checked that no cables are in the grills or near any fans etc ..

    Regards

Not so silly... But yes.. I've had the PC in bits trying to find out what it was and there was the culprit. PSU out of the case, no cable near it. Does it mostly when machine is under load suggesting the fan??

It's not much but enough to annoy me. Had to put machine back together again for now as I needed to use it.

What has that got to do with anything?

MIne arrived the other day, and i have found that the fan appears to kind of 'pulse' i imagine its because power draw of my system sits right on the border betweent the fan speeds, its a complete non issue unless the 24 pin cable is touching the side of the case, in which case it makes a right racket. Might be worht checking for something like that.

Can you explain further... not fully understanding. (The 20+4 Pin connectors are braided).

Have checked the cable and can't see it touching the sides anywhere. (Have checked the whole setup out of the case and the sound still comes from the PSU when under even small load... eg. running Super_Pi 1mb test.

Yeah, because the cable is so stiff it seems to transmit the vibrations into the case. If yours arent touching hten it wont be that, and its a distinct vibrating noise, not a squeal.

They will issue you an RMA number from there.

Say it was collected tomorrow, whats the turnaround time... as I'll be without a PC until I get the new PSU... how long does it normally take for refund? as I won't be able to buy a replacement until I get this. I got this PSU in a Today Special... how does this work, do I still get new one at the Today Special Price????

Secondly with this fault you will need a quiet environment to test it in ... the PSU works fine operationally though... last thing I need is a long drawn out RMA. Please tell me this will be painless
