Smile Ramila Makes little lad's Xmas

Have been watching the performance of the Opteron 939 CPus 4 a while now.
Like many getting exited about their superior price/performance. Seeing pps start 2 struggle 2 get supplies.

Thought i'd missed the boat seeing Opterons - Get 'em while you can!

He said the AMD guy told him that there will indeed be no more shipments through retailers or distributors. Only full systems integrators will get them from now on, for us in pre-built high end server configurations.

The reasoning, so the story goes, is that AMD is pushing for the deliniation between product lines, and they want A64's filling the desktop role, and Opterons filling the server role, PERIOD. Thus, they will only ship to parties who plan to build the opterons into actual servers.

While this still confuses me (i.e. if you want them as servers, why release on the 939 platform?) it's the best information I have up to this point, and does explain why *none* of the distributors have anymore of these, and why thier previously scheduled shipments have failed to appear.

I still can't say for absolute sure that this is definitely going to happen, but all signs are pointing that way now. I'll keep you guys up to date when/if I hear more as well.
Was after the 148 but would have taken lower, virtually every uk source was out. Then this AM saw Scan with 148 in stock.

Had to go to hull to deliver parcels. Got back 3:00pm Stock still there . Put Q Order on - Problem with card needs verifying - Oh Bugger go to cash machine get cash - goto Scan.

Enter Ramila (have known her from Scan's old premises)
Explain situation - Ramila gets stock checked -
Out of stock - Little lad makes pet lip - wife comforts him, he wipes back the tears - NO Opteron this Xmas

    Ramila - I'll go & check 4 you
Ramila goes 4 some dark gloomy minutes.

Then comes back - SHE HAS !
Sad little boy Cheers & brightens - Starts to act his age again

    RAMILA You ROCK

    Big Thanks Ramila & Scan

    herulach,

My order had been accepted with no mention of out of stock. I placed my order when stock was shown.

As an accountant I can appreciate that at times on fast moving high demand items discrepancies occur between book stock & actual stock, or the stock is missed.

The fact that Scan has people like Ramila - prepared to go that extra yard is the thing that i'm celebrating here.
