I have read up the articles on that voltmod - took me ages to find the damn place - its just under the bracket for the HSF - i almost went mad looking for it!!! Didnt think it would be that small - but will have to wait until the weekend until i can get some from maplin or somewhere. Whats better, conductive paint or a pen - in terms of application?? Sorry for going off topic (you can PM me if you want to keep it off this thread).

...Which is probably due to the high demand...

There is no further update at the present time regarding stocking levels, or even supply levels of these processors.

Many sites such as thereg etc are reporting that these "constraints" are probably going to be ongoing into Feb at the present time.

As such, it seems that there is huge demand but low production as AMD probably didn't anticipate desktop users buying as many as they do

    Best Regards,

It seems that i missed the boat again.
I am now thinking about canceling the order and wait for the new m2 socket coming in the summer.

Ron2256 - This crossed my mind, but we have to consider that M2 may very well be delayed beyond summer, maybe even getting to next year before it is released. There will then be the usual period of bugs and glitches which should be allowed to resolve themselves before we start buying into it. Food for thought?

douthers - I am not gonna wait for the m2. As you said the platform will be full of bug to start with and the motherboards & ddr2 memory are going to be expensive for no real gain.
There is plenty of life in the socket 939.

I had an email from scan asking me if i wanted to change or cancel my order on the 146.
I am not willing to cancel the order yet, even so i've been waiting for nearly 3 weeks.
So, what the ETA on the 146 oem?
And will you be able to fulfill the backorders when the next batch arrived?

A wise decision mate. I'm now wavering over whether to splash out on a 146... I know it will outperform my 3200 Winchester (running @ 2.6ghz), but I'm concerned the extra boost won't be massively noticeable. It's going to cost me about £175 to buy into the Opty stable, plus, to maximise the benefits, about the same again for some high performance ddr to replace my Geil value. That's £350ish for (maybe) a 2 - 300mhz gain and 512 extra L2 and a bit more bandwidth. I know this game is all about small gains here and there, and they do add up but I can't decide if it's worth it?

Well can I just say, do you max out your processer a lot? Is it ever feeling short of grunt? If not then you don't need the extra of the Opty, if the answer is yes it may be worth it, or consider a 3800 x2

So apparently, Scan is going to get a new batch of 146 OEM on friday.
I ordered mine with a motherboard and a hard drive.
The hard drive is a hitachi 250Gb t7k250 and it's out of stock at the moment.
Do you think that Scan will hold onto a 146 for me until the hitachi come back in stock or am i gonna have to wait for the two to be in stock at the same time?

I received my 146 on saturday with an asrock dual sata.
The install went well and the 146 is sitting at 2.7GHz at the moment using a divider.
The stepping is cacje 0546 which is a bit strange cause i know that a few place are shiping opty's made in 2006.
Anyway, the chip seams to be good and the cacje are meant to be ok as well. (good for 2.8-2.9?)
The asrock came with 1.40 bios.
I am not interested interested in the ocw bios right now.
Is anybody knows if the bios 1.50 or 1.60 are worth upgrading to?
