    Dodgy Sapphire X1900XTX

I installed my new ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe and Sapphire X1900XTX last night, but when I power it up I get lots of little lines made up of blue dots over the screen. I installed windows and the blue dots were still there, I installed Mobo drivers, blue dots were still there. I then installed the graphics drivers thinking the blue dots would go away, the PC restarted BIOS screen and windows loading screen came up, but with blue dots, then the loading windows screen goes, and the screen just goes blank and that's as far as I can get. I hate to do a hard reset and the same happens again.

Any ideas what might cuase this? Could it be the X1900XTX? I can get hold of a 7800GTX tomorrow night which I'll try to make sure it's not a mobo problem. But I'm kinda stumped really.

Sounds like a Graphics card problem to me. Try the other card first!

Yeah sounds like maybe the memory on the card is faulty, this usually causes the issues as explained.

If you find a different card works in the system with no issues log a query through the link below and we will get this returned for you.

Right, I've a spare Graphics card to test it with now. If the X1900XTX is faulty do I just follow that link and put the invoice number in?

So, I've had the faulty X1900XTX RMA'd and a replacement has been sent. But when I install it I'm getting exactly the same problem, minus the blue dots on the screen. I've tried a fresh install and all is fine until I install the drivers and restart, I then get a blank screen after the XP loading screen.

Any ideas what I should do now? If it's a case of RMA'ing this one I don't want to stick with the same card and would rather pay any extra needed and get a 7900GTX. But then that leaves me with a CrossFire mobo that I'll never use as that, so I would also want to change to an nForce 4 SLI board. I also bought an aftermarket cooler for the X1900XTX from scan yesterday and haven't installed that yet, and won't now, so could that be RMA'd too?

Boot into safe mode and install the drivers again, this will fix it. If you get no problems throughout bios and only in windows then its a driver issue if you get problems before windows then it is a hardware issue.
    Hope this helps

Ok thanks, I'll try that tonight. I'm getting a bit frustrated with this now. Looking at it logically I really can't see it being a hardware problem. The first one was because of the blue dots all over the screen, but this one isn't doing that.

EDIT: Will running the CD installer again do the job?

It's not the monitor, it works fine on a 7800GTX, and it's only a few weeks old.

I've just downloaded the latest drivers (6.5) so I'll go into Safe mode, or even VGA mode and install them.
