Info required on a DivX player.

Looking around my room, the only things missing are a DIVx dvd player and a joystick (probably go for the logitech force feedback one or Hi spec wireless saitek one, hmm which one?) oh and a nice large 70" Plasma (well over budget... there's always my dreams )

Anyway back on topic, quick question: I know that some Divx players can be flashed/firmware changed so that it can play newer DivX versions. Can this one as I should be able to hook it up to my computer and/or speakers?

Those DVD Players only have a MPEG4 DSP so even if you can upgrade firmware they won't change anything (AFAIK)

Basically enhancements such as quarter pixel (QPel), motion compensation (GMC) are not usually supported because they need a lot more computational power those DSP can't provide regardless of firmware.

As long as you don't use those special enhancements (not that they're that much useful anyway) in newer MPEG4 codecs (xvid/divx) your player will always play them fine.

IMO don't use Divx and use Xvid

As for flash upgrading according the the Cnet review it does not have this facility I'm afraid.
