help with buying a laptop for going abroad

i'm going to be getting a new laptop, i will be leaving the country to live in trinidad, but i really have to buy one before i leave but the power supplies are different, trinidad runs on the same as the US, is there an easy way round this or will i need to wait till i get there to buy one,

the only thing you need to worry about is getting a laptop that allows the power lead to be changed - by this I mean the connection to the transformer from the mains - All of the laptop transformers are now standardised and can handle the different voltages and frequencies of power supply in the different countries (Since the laptop takes the DC output from the transformer)
If you can change the lead with the plug on it you are landed!

The one problem I had was in India, where blackouts/ power surges are quite a regular occurance. a surge took out the my battery pack. (haven't bothered replacing it, so i don't know whether it is the charging circuit or the battery pack itself)- Moral of the story get a surge protector wherever you are.

    Hope this helps

all you will need is a 2nd mains lead - there are various sorts but main 3 are std iec (as a desktop PC) - figure of 8 - or clover leaf (three round pins that look like a clover leaf when head on. You can get multi adaptors - but better just ordering right one. could even just hack offUK plug and fit a us/trinidad style one.

And I agree re surge protector.

Hope its not a maccook laptop - as Trinidad is warm I gathr

Would it be worth looking for american laptops now, then waiting till you arrive then buying it straight away. Not only are laptops cheaper over there, but its one less thing to worry about when flying over there?
