    NOOOO!! More issues :(

Im just not having any luck at all lately.

So, swapped the footlong GX2 for the 7950 GX2 and headed home to build it today.

Thing is, i cannot get the machine to Post, and im certainly not new to this.

Basically everything in the system powers on, but there is no display to the monitor....the 7900GX2 was the same for the record, so i dont think its Vid Card related.
I have checked and reseated the CPU 5 times, removed all unneeded hardware, swapped the ram in its slots, left only one stick in etc etc. I have also had the system out of the case and onto an anti-static bag to ensure no Shorts were being caused by the case.
I have also tried a second power supply.

The symptoms are fairly straight forward. No display to the monitor (tried 2, on both DVI-outs), no error beeps from the motherboard and no "im ok" beep that you would expect at startup.

Im leaning towards the motherboard being the cause of fault here, but i do not have another to test with.

Im obviously going to have to call Scan at some point to speak to them about this, but i wanted to know if anyone had any ideas??

    Spec:

    Conroe 6300
    Intel D975XBX Motherboard revision 304
    2x1gig OCZ Gold DDR2 6400
    XFX 7950GX2
Enermax Liberty 500w (also tried Antec trupower 430w)
    Dell 2405 TFT.

I have run out of ideas guys, any help that you can provide would be greatfully received.

    Thanks,

According to the nvidia website here the board needs at least 1073 BIOS or higher to function correctly with that card.

Yeah i did see that, i would have thought it would post regardless tho? No way to check without a PCI-Express card either :/

Guess i will have to go the blind flash route, but I only wanted to go that way as a very last resort!!

I would have thought the PC would have booted though. Is the Monitor ok?

tbh a spare PCI express card is a good investment for the next 3-4 years for everybody!

Right, met with a mate of mine to get this nailed down.

Started by putting my 7950GX2 into his machine. Booted first time, so the vid card is fine.
Next, we put a PCI vid card in my motherboard, up comes the display no problem.
Then we put his 7800GTX in the first PCI-E slot on my motherboard. Nothing....at all, just like before. It does however work in the second slot. My 7950 still doesnt work in any of the slots on the Intel d975X.
So, it looks like at the very least the first PCI-E slot on my motherboard is hosed.

One other weird thing i noticed, was that i never got a Post screen, or the option to go into the BIOS, either that or the monitor was just too slow. We saw the Raid setup screen etc followed by the "please insert boot disk" message so it seems to be operating on at least a basic level.

Ill call Scan first thing tommorow and arrange to bring the motherboard in i think!!

Just update the bios, with your friends 7800, should be simple enough .
    Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.2Ghz (400Mhzx8) 1.52V (set in bios, 1.47v real) | 4GB GeIL PC6400 4-4-4-12 | Gigabyte DQ6 @ 1600Mhz | HD2900XT 1GB | Enermax Infiniti 720W | Silverstone TJ07-B with custom watercooling | BenQ FP241WZ
    3dmark05 - 13140 | 3dmark06 - 6698 | SuperPi 1M - 15s

That wont alter the fact that the first PCI-E Slot doesnt work (even for a 7800GTX), which is why i didnt bother going ahead with the BIOS update.

Ill be taking it to Scan tommorow, i think the Mobo is borked
