Does lapping a CPU void warranty?

    Hi all ,

There was this one thing that has been doing my head lately and that is this , does lapping a retail E6600 void your warrenty?

Overall the cpu has performed really amazingly , what i mean by that is on idle it runs at room temps and even on load it runs on room temps, not many cpu's can say that.

You know why that is ?

Its still in its box. Thats the thing that made me lapp it , it was in front of me for the last month doing nothing and after i read on forums and then bought a lapping kit for £16 (for some sandpaper, you should have seen the share index for sandpaper that day , it was at its year hi), really happy with the results like but there was this dilemma of the warrenty.

Anyways let me know what the situation is on this. The poor cpu hasnt even seen a board yet.

Sorry if I got this wrong nope - but you basically sandpaper the surface of your new CPU and still expect the warranty to cover it?

I cant answer your question but I suspect you already know the answer

Lapping will instantly void all warranty on your CPU.

calm down dear , nothing has broken yet and dont worry it wont effect your pocket.

The reason why we lap is to get better dissapation from heat , if the surface is perfectly smooth and flat it will give you then critical 3-5C less

dust down your dell and leave the chap alone. Lapping smooths the surface cpu/chipset/hsf, thus better contact/temps
