Sorry if you've already done this, I'm a little confused regarding where you do and don't see the drive.

Do you see it in Computer Management (right-click my computer, 'manage my computer') -> Disk Management. A zeroed drive (as you get from the manufacturer) has to be activated, and then formatted, before Windows will let you use it. Activation is enough to display the drive in My Computer.

Lol nope disk management cannot see the drive but Windows Device manager can.

Disk is being sent back tomorrow. I did everything bar getting 5 virgins dressed in white to dance round the drive.....

    ......actually there's a thought

I've just ordered a IDE WD 320GB replacement - so hopefully no issues as I'm not even using the same controller now lol

Reading another thread is it reasonable to assume I will not be charged a restocking fee for the drive due to the incompatibility issue I came across? I had no way of knowing there was a problem until I tried it and even Scan didnt know anything about this. I tried the PCPerspectives forum for some guidance and it appears that 1 other user that spotted my post had encountered exactly the same issue with the same board and SATA2 WD HDs.

Quick update - scan have got the disk back and have issued a refund for it already.

I've dealt with a lot of IT supply companies in the past but this is the reason I keep coming back to Scan. Good stuff guys.

Scan support bods - whilst I dont have the money back in my account yet I do realise that christmas has most probably held this up. However I'm a little perplexed as to why the refund issued for the item I returned is almost 5 pounds short of what I actually paid for it?

Can you let me know why this is?

    Thanks.

If its incompatible, and works perfect, its more then likely the postage costs.

    Did your replacement hdd work?

It isnt a restocking fee as the numbers dont add up - please let Scan answer this question.

Also thisis an obscure incompatibility problem that I would not have known anything about and neither infact does Scan. I bought both items from Scan and If I had asked Scan beforehand I would no doubt have been told that it was compatible as the problem is really pretty obscure. Please also bear in mind I had to pay to post the package back!

Please I need an answer on this Scan as I ordered a replacement drive in good faith.

It is not a case of "can't be bothered" - we've simply been very busy today, and are working through the messages here.

If you can bear with us, one of the returns team will be with you as soon as they are free.

I'm sorry for the attitude but If you read the thread trail I have been asking for quite some time - the problem of this type of forum is that threads disappear and the way you guys are dealing with this stuff at the moment (ie you are busy) is the latest gets dealt with.

    Thank you for your attention.

    Sorry for the delay.

Returns have come back to me the refund will be processed @ £ 66.91 today for you. This is due to the fact the HDD was sold as a Today Only item with Nero software, which has not been returned.

    Regards
