    Vista Upgrade Problem!

Don't really know where to go with this tbh....

I bought a copy of XP Home oem back in December from Scan. The redemption form for Windows Vista upgrade that comes with the pack had an invalid number.

I emailed the Moduslink team and they sent a replacement number which worked fine. Unfortunately their payment system has been down for ages everytime I go through the process it says to try again later.

I've emailed the Moduslink people again with no reply whatsoever this time.

I've spoken with MS about this and they can't offer any help whatsoever.

I'm going away next week on holiday and when I return home the completed form date of March is suddenly approaching very, very quickly.

Am I going to get this sorted by March? I don't think so at this rate! can anyone here offer me some help

    Thanks

(I know scan can't really help due to it being third party I thought I'd just ask incase)

Unfortunately we have no control over the system at all, the only thing i can suggest is to keep trying the Modus email link until you get a reply.

Really sorry I can't be more useful but there really is nothing we can do, we only have the same contact email as you yourself do and Microsoft wont step in at all.

Thankyou for help both of you.

ChrisP I don't know if that could be a problem. I've got a valid number they offered me it's just the payment system is not working and email support is nonexistent

    Thanks for the replies.

Looks like I'll be buying a copy of Vista.

Well considering at the point of sale there was no mention the voucher. would be invalid if bought with parts only, its seems it's a poor show.

    Not a happy bunny.

It's been pretty clear on our website ever since Microsoft launched the offer, its specified against each product and on the general overview link.

Ok, let me get this straight...

    We cannot:
Buy XP with a motherboard and CPU, finish building the system with our 'parts', install it, and then take advantage of the Vista upgrade as it was not 'pre-installed on a fully built system'?

    Yet, we can:
Buy the parts in a different order, buy XP with a mouse, install it on that system pre-built system, give it to the bloke down the road, and they can use the voucher?

    Is that right?

NO, you need to buy a fully built system from a registered OEM system builder with any version of XP pre-installed for the voucher to be valid and have a receipt which validates this.

(The following is conjecture from how I understand it, I've not tested it).

Become a registered system builder with MS. It's a simple process.

Then get the OEM preinstallation kit. Use it to create an install image (like MESH's recovery disk etc.) which clearly labels you as the system builder. Install this image to the computer which you are building for yourself or anyone else. Then when this computer is booted up from the installed image activate it as usual with the OEM key. MS now have details that that system was activated using x key and built by y registered builder.

To get the upgrade use the voucher along with proof that the computer was built by the registered system builder (ie a reciept) - MS will match that with their details and send you the disk.

Once you have the voucher, what you do with to it has nothing to do with Scan, we are only providing information to you all that Microsoft have provided to us, in all honesty it's a typical situation when dealing with Microsoft.

How you go about trying to gain an upgrade, well, we have no control over, as long as in the end we made you aware of the process as per Microsoft, then we have done our job correctly.

Can we please end this thread now, there is nothing more we can do

Gonzo, really you have not read this thread at all, Scan will sell OEM XP without a full system, we are discussing the UPGRADE to vista vouchers.
