    Evesham Technology

Has anyone bought a pc from Evesham Technology as i'm looking to buy a prebuilt system again, but not from Meshcomputers ever again as they are the worst pc retailer i have ever had to buy pc's from.
I'm looking to spend about £3000 so i want to know who to trust about Customer care and Aftersales, your feedback would be very helpful thnx!!

I've been using them for years..they're a very friendly company, good customer service.. the warranty work is pretty good, only time i've used it, it was onsite and got upgraded for free which was nice of them.

They're well built and reliable. I've got one still going from around 1999 lol

    I can heartily recommend them.

I bought a system in 2001 that lasted 'til about a year ago. In that time all that went wrong was 2 HDD's. They were replaced quickly and without fuss on-site.

When I came to replace it, I was between them and Mesh. Mesh had a slightly better spec for the money but I stuck with Evesham because I knew I'd get decent service. After ordering I changed the software package, then the monitor (to a non-standard Evesham model, that was stocked by their component division LOW) and this was all done without fuss without affecting the delivery date.

The PC I bought had obviously been carefully put together. All parts were popular choices at the time (XFX/WD/Tagan/MSI). All the manuals/ extra cables etc. were supplied, HDD rails were in a holder in the bottom of the case. All the drivers were up to date. There wasn't a single issue with it. It was pretty much just switch on and use.

It's been running for 4 or 5 hours a day for a year now and hasn't required a single bit of maintenance or TLC. I do know that if anything goes wrong it'll be fixed on-site without quibble. Which is more than I could have banked on elsewhere.

I now build my own machines, but my girlfriend likes the safety of having a warrantied machine in case I'm away and the PC fails. So no doubt we'll buy another from Evesham

I used to rave about them, but have recently had cause to use their tech support.

Over two weeks without any help. I then threatened doing something over their breach of tech support contract, at which point, I actually got some interaction (of a sort).

Finally, I was told that my problem wasn't covered by the warranty (most likely a faulty mobo) because I had installed a new hard drive.

I told them that they'd told me there was a totally open box warranty and I was able to install additional hardware (and yes, I did use an anti-static strap etc).

They said that wasn't the issue, the motherboard worked for the shipped configuration (one hard disk plugged into one of the four sata channels), and that adding another hard disk to another sata channel was not the intended use (or words to that effect).

I challenged them on this as the mobo was clearly faulty, and they conceded that they'd replace it if they found it was faluty, but that it would have to be returned to be tested in their labs.

I asked how they defined on-site warranty if each item had to be returned to labs for testing. They had no answer and simply re-stated their position.

So - if you're 100% certain that the computer they ship you will work absolutely fine, then by all means order, but if you're even slightly concerned about using the warranty and their technical support, then consider whether this is the level of service you want before you buy.

    You'll be a lot safer using scan's 3xs machines.

I was going to either buy a full system from Evesham £3000+ or buy a £1500 selfbuild from either Advance Tech or from Scan.
So far people seem to like them only one has had a problem. Did you at anytime bad mouth them or rude in anyway, as that is a sure fire way of getting bad service, or you could look at it another way in that, Evesham are a company and therefore a business.
They don't know if you've overclocked the mobo in some way and fried the mobo, if it does state in the Terms and conditions that adding another HDD would void the warranty, very small print maybe, then they are within there right to not offer you a replacement.
It wouldn't of hurt to ring them first and ask if this would be the case.

As good as Evesham are if your upper limit is that high don't count out scan, alienware and perhaps Vadim.

They all offer excellent pre-sale and aftercare service not to mention put together fantastic PC's with very good warranties.

Nope. I've been the very model of politeness and patience.

Likewise, I've not fiddled with the mobo.

They did try to tell me to flash the bios. I asked whether that would be covered by the warranty if it failed. They said it wouldn't. I asked how they could suggest that as a solution.

They've been really clear - both pre and post sale - the warranty is open box, so I can add anything I want. It's one of their selling points - after years of self builds where you end up with some totally unexpected compatibility problem, I thought I'd go for a cheap deal I got on a top spec Evesham through work to ensure that all the components went well together.

I've been through the rights and wrongs of it with them, and they've not been able to fault my actions.

They just don't seem to want to honour their contractual obligations.

But I will emphasise - prior to needing tech support, I thought they were wonderful and recommended them to a great many people.

Ok thnx for a reply, i guess you were unlucky this time, unless you can find an answer to your problem as it doesn't seem that Evesham is going to come up with the answer either.
Regarding Alienware or Vadim or dell for that matter, Vadim have lovely systems indeed and very nice prices to boot, even though Vadim are about 4 miles away from me, too expensive, Alienware/Dell same thing, too expensive and doesn't come with a Monitor, that's why i am looking at or just configured a system and filled out the Finance form so i'll get an answer tomorrow, Monday.
And i've heard Dell pc's are very noisy, and Alienware need to change the Case now as it's been out a few years now.

My thoughts for what they're worth - avoid Dell and Alienware.

Vadim and Scan are a good bet.

Re Evesham, unless they want to be taken for breach of contract, they're going to need to come up with the goods!

That's exactly right, the Pc pro magazine that did a review of all the pc retailers found out that Evesham came out First place, but someone said that about Meshcomputers aswell and they are really really CRAP.
Anyone want to buy an old AGP pc, i thought not, this is my second pc from meshcomputers,i've had it 3 yrs now and it's had it, cost new it was £2300,it was in the pc mags as BEST BUY, how wrong i was to buy mesh, but as i see it i can't be bloody unlucky 3 times can i, or you could say, Evesham even though they might have problems, they just gotta be better than Meshcomputers.
For the price and spec 2X 8800GTX's in SLI, QX6700 QUAD, 2X 500 HDD CM Stacker 830, and a Viewsonic 24" Monitor bought with pc for £250, it's £500 new,so in that respect it's a great monitor with it's faults as it's not a patch on the Benq, i'm going to buy the Benq 24"Wz in 4 months time

It looks like Evesham are having a bit of trouble, they have lost over 2 Million in Pc sales, see link.

Well I won't be shedding any tears. Their service has been diabolical.

My problems are STILL not sorted out.
