    TV's a gonner!

    i'm so annoyed!

was watching TV earlier and the entire screen went black after a very dull popping sound came from the back somewhere!

the screen won't come on and it looks like it's a gonner!

there is light at the end of the tunnel though... i should now be entitled to 'purchase up to the same value' with my insurance... yeah, my premium will go up slightly... but damn... can't be doing without the TV for much longer....

which brings me onto my question..

if you had roughly £1600 to spend on any TV... which one would you chose?

That is a lot of money for a tv these days! Can't you just get the money?

That sounds as if it is a warranty issue, not an insurance issue, unless you have already contacted your insurance company and they have agreed to pay out I wouldn't count on it going through.

You'll also have to factor in that most insurance companies will pay out in vouchers so your £1600 wouldn't go so far.

Now, to answer your question Samsung LE40A786 would be my choice, or possibly the 46 if the price is right.

    Re: TV's a gonner!

from my experiences i have found two manufacturers to be the best..

Sony with their bravia range... great TV's great picture
Panasonic Viera... from what i have been told ( and i know some guys who work in the industry....these are highly rated.)

Basically i would suggest going for an LCD TV (if you are going to be using them for games, pc ) Plasma for more natural colour replication.
so..... high as possible contrast ratio ( some lcds go upto 55,000 : 1)
refresh rate.. most are 50Hz.. but you can get 100Hz
Resolution, obviously HD ready preferably 1080P

that said i have an 42lg7000 and i didnt even choose it (it was boxing day.. i was seriously hung over... wifey made an excellent choice!) - its great.. good picture.. good sound.. i would recommend you switch off most of the gimmicks that come with it.. in this case TrueMotion.. it felt a bit too real and too smooth..

i have simplified it.. but its always better to go and have a look and ask plenty of questions.. and if they are not helpful... dont even waste your time buying from them.

For that sort of money you want to be looking at the Pioneer Kuro, better than Sony's or Panny's but then they do cost a lot more.
