What i just cannot understand is why scan (and others) insist it lumping all deliveries with a single courier.

Why is it impossible to use

royal mail for northern ireland smaller parcels
    Up to £500
    100g £4.10
    500g £4.50
    1kg £5.70
    2kg £7.40

and parcelforce for £14.25 for up to 30kg

and up to 24 pounds saving per customer surely its worth a bit of hassle.

Hence the Carriage Promo only being available to mainland UK.

It is possible that a few orders in the past slipped under the net, and went out at an incorrect rate - but with the improvements on the carriage options, this will not happen now.
Well ive been using scan for years - (at least 8) and i pretty confident that ive never paid over 10 pounds for delivery to n ireland I guess i must have been very lucky...

I can also vouch for the fact that I have never paid over a tenner.

Our carriage charges have always been the same to non UK mainland post codes. IE we have always been charged the premium delivery regardless of the carriage charge, which the web site has displayed. As of 2-3 weeks ago the web site was updated to show the correct carriage charge based on the weight of the order and the delivery address so the site is now clear on exactly what the carriage cost will be rather than having to contact each individual customer to inform them of the correct charge.

In cases where you have previously made orders with the standard UK charge, clearly these orders have slipped through at our loss and can confirm again the carriage surcharge is not new the web site has just been updated to show the correct charge.

Royal mail cannot be used for various reasons explained in the Scan forum.

Which scan forum is this - is it the one on Hexus?? - if so i cant find any mention of it ...
a link would be helpful if you can because the search engine is turning up nothing ...
but I have my suspicions that the search on hexus forums is not working properly as
single search terms i would expect to find hits for like 'mail' give no search results

Are there no couriers you could use which do not charge extra to ship to northern ireland?

    Aha,
search engine is back working again ...

    I found this thread
    http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.p...ght=royal+mail

which contains the following answer from Scan

Also and this is the main reason I guess if any item we send gets damaged in post to the end user then as its not insured there could be issues if for example fans etc get damaged on route to the destination.

I know this isnt the answer you were looking for however my hands are tied on this one as I have been told a firm no no.
I can see that this arguement would be valid for regular parcel post but not for royal mail
"special delivery next day" this does not hold water (imho at any rate)

Since number 1 it is trackable

When we collect your Special Delivery item, either from your business or from the Post Office™ branch, we take it to our Mail Centre. There, Special Delivery items are separated from the rest of the mail, scanned to confirm we have received them, and put in to our secure network.

When we deliver your item to the address given we ask for a signature to confirm receipt. After the delivery person returns to their delivery office our online Track & Trace system is updated.

You can use Track & Trace to check that the item has arrived. In the near future you will also be able to see a Proof of Delivery online – a copy of the actual signature that was taken as receipt of delivery.
and number 2 its definitely possible to claim against lost or damaged parcels

    still confused :-(

So reading between the lines it's just too much hassle for them to seperate out the northern irish stuff and send it by another courier.

You hear such good things about scan but this is pretty bad.

I would hope they have a more plausible reason than that - but as i said before the reasons mentioned in the forums before dont hold water (for me at any rate). Looking at the red list (companies who surcharge to northern ireland) it seems to me that a few others in there use city-link too. So I'm guessing they have managed to negotiate a better deal with city-link than Scan have done (granted their charges are horriffic too!). Scan should look at this urgently as it pretty much puts a complete stop on me (and i would guess a fair few others from Northern Ireland too) ordering from them (and I have ordered a fair bit from them in the past). To me, putting delivery charges this high (28 quid for an IDE drive) sends a message that they just dont want my business.

Something that has always bugged me is that the say UK mainland and then exclude northern ireland. The UK is england, scotland, wales and northern ireland. Without NI it is GB, therefore based on this argument non-mainland UK places would be, Isle of Mann, Isle of Wight, Jersey etc, Scottish Islands. IE they cannot say it is the UK unless they include Northern Ireland.

I can confirm that I always used SCAN at uni and when I returned home to NI I went to use them but discovered the insane postage. As a result of this gross in equity I simply refuse to use them, even when on the mainland.

ChrisP (Retail Sales Manager) - Is NI international!? Non-mainland sure.

Another one to add to the "dont even go there list" it247.com. They will not even supply goods to outside mainland UK.

    read here for a laugh .... http://www.it247.com/site/pdf/Deliveries.pdf

IT247.com does not currently ship products outside of the UK and any orders shipped to
Northern Ireland have a minimum order value of £1,000.

will make a note to add this one to the ni ireland delivery site ...

Cant make up my mind which is worse - companies that charge HUGE prices to ship to northern ireland or companies who refuse to ship to nothern ireland... its a tough call.
