It looks cool, but in this day & age, with the technology available to the film makers, it flippin well should.
As for the director, I heard on the news that he was no Star Trek fan, but just liked the script??? Maybe a good thing, to have a fresher take on a tired old story laden with years of cheese.
I feel excited by this project. Am a huge Star Trek fan, despite many years of general disappointment, i still see the original vision and ideas, the concepts.. basically the stuff that makes good sci-fi good.
Most recently i think Battlestar Galactica has done this the best, and i mean in terms of writing and acting, not just visually. Before that, arguably B5 (i'm thinking those Londo and G'Kar relationship scenes in particular).
Star Trek could stand with it's head tall again with this project, instead of being sniggered at by most. I hope so.

if this could rekindle old fans, and perhaps attract new, it could be good
it just needs to be cool...
As a work colleague said its amazing how This enterprise which is a prequal to the original series looks a lot more advanced
I hope they get this right, the previous star trek movies have been crap.
Isnt there a rule that every other star trek movie is good?
This film isn't a prequel.
Or are you talking about the TV show 'Enterprise'?
You're always going to be in trouble if a 1960's show depicts the year 2250 which looks less advanced than modern day when seen in 2008.
A computer that's only as big as a large cupboard? Check.
A portable communication device as small as a PDA? Check.
Cool all-in-one fabric clothing.... actually that's something i could get in to
Unfortunatelty 'Nemesis' killed that one off.Isnt there a rule that every other star trek movie is good?
Plus, this is number 11, or number 1, depending on how you view it.

I can't say i'm a avid fan or a trekie, but I like sc-fi in general, I have watched some of the films in the past and some of the series aswell, this one looks quite interesting so it will be good to see what they come up with!!
The deflector array looks silly, they should not be basing it on the original
Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?
I think this enterprise looks v cool.
FFS, fanboys, give them a chance, a'ight? I remember the furore when the enterprise E was revealed for First Contact. "My god, it's the wrong shape!!!"
Or was it the crappy one from that dreadful insurrection feature length episode? Or that dreadful Nemesis straight to DVD movie?
I forget. Anyway, the point is: The last few movies (since First Contact, which was great) have been unmitigated piles of complete poop. Let's give this one the benefit of the doubt.
YUK!
The one from ENTERPRISE series was the best looking one.
