It has to be a joke as it doesn't make sense....the PS3 plays PS2 titles and therefore does not need a PS2 bundled with it to use the back-catalogue

yeah I'm inclined to agree with shaithis, the PS3 is backwards compatible with PS1 & 2 games. However it is not 100% compatible because it is up to
"game publishers and peripheral manufacturers to develop the appropriate hardware to play peripheral-dedicated PS1 and PS2 games on the PS3"
lol would be interesting having both consoles
Check the original articles source
Could be taken as truth IMO
The 60gb PS3 had the emulation in, but IIRC it wasnt existing in the 80gb/40gb (possibly newer ones have it via software emu I'm not sure) so it kindof makes sense.
I knew they dropped the hardware emulation early on but wasn't aware they dropped the software emulation also :S

I reckon it might be April Fools. If you think about it, would Sony want any competitors to its PS3 and - and this an important and - games made for the PS3? [PS2 is a competitor to PS3, even if they're both Sony...]
I know Sony don't get all the money from games, but because PS2 games are much cheaper than PS3 games, it makes business sense to get people to buy the newer games.
You could argue that consumers would buy the PS3 games anyway. Of course, otherwise they wouldn't have bought a PS3 itfp. However, if there's a cheaper PS2 game that I thought I'd "enjoy" that month, I wouldn't neccesarily waste my salary on a pricier PS3 title. I might spend £10 one month (PS2) and £40 next (PS3). (Not £40 both months.)
I say all this: I don't own a PS3. Or a X360 - just an X86. (I do have a (dusty) MegaDrive, though.)
If the PS2s were bundled, then it might encourage more sales of PS2 games.
IIRC, saving didn't work well, or at all, when playing PS2 games on a PS3, and there are no memory card slots.
Although, most PS2 game sales nowadays will be preowned, so Sony wouldn't get money for that. But there is still the odd game.
But what about a previous Hexus article stating that Sony is cutting the price of PS3?
And if this is an April fools then it's not a very good one.
It smells of ass. So It has the opposite effect of putting a smile on one's face
Not sure it would make much difference..unless of course sales have dropped significantly since they dropped all support for PS2 titles (my shiny new 80gb PS3 does not support any )..and new PS2s are cheaper than emotion lol
Possible as a special bundle pack..but i doubt it would be a permanent offer
They've dropped the price of the PS2 in the US to $100. Most PS3s aren't backwards compatible, as the Emotion Engline chip thing was removed to make them a wee bit cheaper to make.
If it is a April Fool then it's really rubbish.

Yes, that one is right - but not in the UK. IIRC, it's been dropped to $99 in the US.
