    Re: baius is here.

    2009.10.13 update to OQO 01+ (U1):
I used to love my OQO; until I tried earlier today to try Win7 on my 01+.

    It broke.

I didn't know you could "brick" a PC!!

I couldn't get "it" to find my Ext USB DVD Drive, via start up. So I had to start the OS Upgrade process inside XP, something I just don't do! Anyway, I get the Win7 process going and go away for a while. (Dinner.) I come back after an hour, and see

    "A disk read error occurred
    Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart"

So I press CTRL+ALT+"FN+bksp", to restart the OQO. After about 20s I get the same message.

I power off this time. Then try fn+F8. Same message. Again, but fn+bksp (DEL). Same message.

    • The keyboard doesn't seem to respond at startup (it did before).
    • The HDD is evidently missing a file - or worse.
    • Oh, and unrelated to this issue, but still important, whenever I try and take the power source away from my OQO, it turns off; so I think the battery's EOL.

So, I'm not very happy. I'm investigating some OQO-specific forums (as well as Hexus), but hold out little hope; OQO went AWOL Apr 2009, according to its website, so no warranty repair.

Incidentally, I tried my HP 2133 (N1) and HP TC1100 (T1) with Win7. They both work, although with the latter you have to be careful NOT to install certain updates via WinUP, as they crash-out the system.

    XXXD2 - finally built

    XXXD2: my second desktop.

    Goals:
    • Small
    • Power-efficient
    • Power-ful - use Adobe Acrobat every day.
    • Light gaming
    • HD Movies

I used an ITX case and built a system on an H55 mobo, Intel i5 660 and 4GB DDR3 RAM.

I Scapped the i7-920 idea, for something less power hungry.

    Inside:
    SGO5B ITX | ITX Mobo | i5 660 | 4gb DDR3 | 160gb SSD | 2TB HDD | 2400i DT | BC-5600S B-R | HD5750 | Win7 64 (Ult)

    Outside:
    M$ WED 8000 | Logitech COTrack | Dell 2407 | IcyDock MB664 | USB->IDE 5.25 | Onkyo AV+HD700x | Roccat Kaves

    Notes:
    • TV: The TerraTec Cinergy 2400i DT DVB-T Tuner doesn't seem to work in Windows 7, 64-bit. It did in Vista 64. (Both OS's were M$ Ultimate versions.)
    • Blu-Ray: Wanted a "nice" slot-loading Blu-Ray Drive. Needed to be Slimline to fit in the SilverStone case. Ordered a Sony BC-5600S from a distant place through Ebay, but it didn't work. I'm still awaiting the replacement (4 months).
    • HD5750: Despite the drive for low power with this system, I just bought a XFX Radeon HD5750 512MB, because my H55 motherboard doesn't bitstream TrueHD/DTS-HD MA to my Onkyo Receiver over HDMI.
[**]Intel's latest drivers render the H55 motherboard unable to send anything to my receiver over HDMI. So I'm just using my Roccat Kave headphones atm - not that I mind. (They're brill.)

Hard Drives: So currently I have loads of hard disks outside of my Mini ITX case, that I attach to my ITX case via an IcyDock MB664 eSATA to SATA external enclosure. It's not ideal, but it's OK.

So, there you have it: XXXD2. XXXD1 is retired.

    NAS System

I originally wanted to have my hard drives (yes, more than one) attached to my main system (D1/D2), but changed my mind.

Goal: Very, very low power server to host 3/4 always-on hard drives.

    Idea: PineTrail Mobo, Atom D510, NM10 Chipset | 2GB DDR2 | ITX Server Case | HDDs

The linked Point of View MB-D510-MiTX motherboard has two SATA ports. Ion-based Atoms have 4 SATA ports - as required - but they take up (slightly) more power.

    This is the case:

    (4 HDD ITX Server)

    I also thought about this:

    (2HDD, 1 DVD ITX Server)

However, I think the extra HDD space will be more useful...

    XXXT2, HP TX2-1340ea

    XXXT2: Hewlett Packard TX2-1340ea Multi-Touch Tablet PC.
    [See also here.]

    Upgrade: Intel X-80M G1 74GiB* SSD.
*80GB on packet, "74GB" (sic, should be GiB) available to Windows. When your HDD's this small, you'd really appreciate that "extra" 6GB.

The HP TX2 is a dream of a machine. I had some issues with drivers, but HP have sorted them with later revisions, so I won't bother mentioning these. Note: I've had this about 10 months now, so I'm not just saying this as a new user.

The Intel Drive has slowed down a 'lil bit. I reinstalled Windows 7 which helped somewhat, but SSD drives without TRIM aren't ideal.

XXXT1, the HP TC1100, is now decommissioned. I use it occasionally for VNC if my TX2 is doing something else.

Baius, why do you keep adding to this thread? This is the Welcome forum, for saying hello in, not for project logs

Go on, post this in the correct forum, you know you want to

I, uh, didn't know I wasn't "aloud" to post this here. Would a Mod be able to move this over to the "prjoect log" thread, please? I'll pay you (in gratitude points).

It's just not what this forum is supposed to be for
Welcome to HEXUS! Let us know you have arrived in here - please don't post any questions though - these should go in the appropriate forum.
Plus, you don't get any post count for posting in her

I would just go and start a thread then edit your previous posts, copying the info out and pasting it into new posts in the new thread.

This has reminded me that I really need to go and do some updates to my own project log thread (in the sig) got a lot still to do there.

OK, thanks. I'll make a new thread next time I build a new system that I feel impelled to tell 'ole Hexus about. TTFN.
