My 120hz CRT still works...
Yup, looks like CRTs only need to be 100Hz too: http://www.nvidia.com/object/GeForce...uirements.html
I'd buy them but my TV isn't 120hz so i can't and i don't want to spend £400 on a new monitor which is smaller.
Something to do with the fact that the refresh rate is halfed (how the glasses work which i can't explain) so you end up with 60Hz.
My thing it though i watch a blu ray in 24fps which is 24hz and i'm fine with it so why i can't play a game in 30hz i'm not sure.
blu-ray's really annoy me for only being 24Hz, as I think that they look juttery. It would be nice if they were increased to 30Hz, or more
They arn't juttery because there isn't enough frames per second, they are juttery because your tv is doing 3:2 pull down. If you get a tv that properly handles a multiple of 24hz the judder will go. The problem isn't that your eyes need more frames for it to be smooth its that your tv can't display the right number of frames.
This is something americans have always had but we have only experienced with blu-rays, with dvds we have a different problem in that the movie is sped up by 4%, changing the pitch of voices and makeing everything happen faster. Blu-rays removed the speed up problem and instead give us the judder problem. Overall though this is a good thing as new tv's fix it, had we stayed with the speed up issue instead new tvs would not have fixed it. It's only really obvious when panning really anyway. Although since we all grew up with the speed up issue most of us don't notice it at all. So its a bit of short term pain for long term gain.
Both Blu-rays and dvds are 24 frames per second, uk tv is 50 hz, so doubling the frames makes 48, just a little short so we speed it up slightly so we are at 50 frames per second to match the tv.
American TV is 60hz, doubling the 24 of the movie makes 48, no where near 60, obviously speeding it up to get 60 would make it 25% faster which would be terrible, so instead they do 3:2 pulldown which means instead of showing all of the frames twice makeing it 48, it shows the odd frames 3 times and the even frames twice, taking the 24 to 60, but introduceing judder.

The screen alternates frames between a slightly left and slightly right shifted view. The shutter glasses have an LCD filter that darkens one eye at a time in time with this alternating, so the left eye sees the left shifted view, and the right eye sees the right shifted view, giving you stereo vision. Because of this it takes two frames to display the same information that would normally be shown in one frame, so the effective frame rate (over both eyes) is halved.
You could if the game was 'recorded' in such a way that each 1/24second long frame contained exactly the right amount of motion blur for all the objects in it at their different speeds. That's easy to do on a camera because you just keep the shutter open for the right amount of time and events take care of themselves. But in a game you aren't recording anything, so everything has to be built from the ground up. Motion blur is beginning to come into games - if they could get to the point where it was applied exactly correctly for the obects speed and the frame rate you are displaying then it would look film like.My thing it though i watch a blu ray in 24fps which is 24hz and i'm fine with it so why i can't play a game in 30hz i'm not sure.
so i take it you can watch movies with these glasses, creating an imax feel?
Yes it does...22" style.so i take it you can watch movies with these glasses, creating an imax feel?
Except for 1 major flaw. Content.. I've only been able to find "Hannah Montana 3D" available, plus a load of old b-movies, ohh and 1 "adult" film which is just hilarious and scary too, some things just shouldn't get that close to your face. All the imax movies, and films that have been released recently in 3D would work perfectly however they haven't been released on dvd/blueray in 3d format yet.
YES! Hannah Montana!
