Re: News - OCZ to launch Vertex Turbo edition solid state drives

Anyone else disappointed at the lack of creativity in SSD naming/branding?

The mechanical drives at least have a few that logically apply to the technology.. 'Spinpoint' being one that comes to mind.

I guess the nature of the product doesn't really lend itself to dynamic, flamboyant imagery.

'Vertex' describes an axis/spin (mechanical) drive, far better than the SSD.
It just feels like the marketing department looked blankly across the room when asked for a new name and said "just stick turbo on it"

I'd be interested to hear some ideas as I've drawn a blank in the few minutes daydreaming...

Er.. no, not at all actually.

Surely "Vertex Turbo 60GB" is better than "WD20EADS Caviar Green" or "ST3750330NS Barracuda ES.2"

Don't forget that they've built a reasonably good name for their Vertex drives, so from a branding perspective it makes sense. I'm holding out for the Super Vertex Turbo Championship Edition myself.

Ah! The age-old issue with PC parts; buy something and the next week it's outdated. You've still got one of the best drives about though and the turbo edition could be pricey.
