I'd say the bittorrent and upnp software on this isn't going to get much exercise. Lack of HDD space and CPU grunt will be a problem. Still, would do fine for simple file sharing/miniwebserver.

    Of course they will.

If an NSLU2 with 133mhz and 32m of ram can saturate a 8meg adsl while serving to a ps3, all through a crappy usb port.

    I'm sure this can!

That's alright if the upnp client supports the file format on the nas, in that case the upnpav is simply a glorified mini-http server, if it's not, there's no hope at all.

    I'd agree,

But why use non standard formats and containers? It's always gonna be trouble. Also since this is a 'piracy device' I'd assume 99% use of avi/mp4.

Propitiatory codecs might be an issue for some (Richard Stallman? ). Anyway, it's a non-issue really, 2.5" disk means 640GB tops. Not exactly meda-whore storage.

1TB actually (providing it can take 12.5mm high drives as well as the standard 9.5mm)

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1TB-W...MB-Cache-12-ms

Although not available right now. And if storage space was a priority, you wouldn't be buying this anyway, you buy it because it is small.

Fair play to WD for that.

I'm just saying it's not going to be a media warrior box or anything. It would still be handy enough for general/light file storage and whatnot.
