Yet another rebrand.. how boring. Can't blame them for keeping quiet over these!
I bet they're considering themselves lucky over the lack of supply of the ATI cards..
Gone were the days where you could buy the brand new, just announced NVidia card with a new name and increased price, and actually get something...new.
What a shock!
With each rebranded card my respect for NVIDIA falls further. Fermi is going to have to be damn amazing and at a reasonable price for me to not switch to ATI early next year.
Wait, hold on...
This GeForce 310 is a Rebranded Geforce 210...
The Geforce 250 is a rebranded Geforce 9800+
The 9800+ is an overclocked and die shrink of the 9800GTX...
and the 9800GTX was released in april 2008.
So this is technology from 1 1/2 years ago, has better specs than a brand new Geforce 310?
Screw this.
could be worse Jambo, and when they rebrand the 8800gt/9800gt/gts240 it will be

On re-badging, no one is forcing anyone to buy them, and if people read enough to know what they have, they'll presumably read again before making a purchase. This whole rebranding thing presupposes there's a class of buyers out there who only purchase based on the model number. I think I've got some 9700Pros that will beat 5970s and 8800s that will beat 280s to sell those guys.
That would be because the vast majority of purchasers are not tech savvy and will expect a model number to mean something. Those of us who are into the tech and follow it closely are the minority, although i am sure you are already aware of that.
I am sure nVidia will "rock the market" again before xmas with offerings of the 340, 350 and 360......just in time for those non-tech-savvy people to upgrade from their 240/250/260 cards!

Of course, but I think it would be silly to assume that the top two GPU companies are completly unaware of each others doings/plans.
You are right that time will tell and we have to wait for the 300's to come out to make a fair comparison however I think most people will agree that what ATI have brought out so far is very impressive but they have been unfortunate with supply. Providing chip supplies pick up we could potentially expect a price drop too.. which could further push nVidia here. Just my take on it anyway...
Lack of supply? Not sure if you have checked but supplies are in. Even NewEgg.com has 2 Radeon HD 5850 brands in stock (PowerColor, XFX). I'd order one, along with the one I already got a week after it was released, but I don't like the raised MSRP on them. At $259 USD it was a steal but not sure if I want to pay $309 USD for them now.
