I did think the previous claims that ipads would overtake laptop sales was massively optimistic. It's too expensive for the functionality it offers. Maybe the new smaller model priced at max £300 could take some steam from laptops but still unlikely as then it will be halfway between an ipad and an ipod touch, pleasing nobody.
It isnt a aptop, and I dont think t can be compared with one. It is a 'content access devce' and as such, browsing the web, listening to music and watching visual media and the occasional e mail, it is excellent. But you wouldnt want to write a 25,000 word dissertation on it - and that isn't what it is designed for.
And yes it is expensive - but it like most Apple products, it does axactly what it ays it will do, no messing about - but for that you pay a premium. There are other devces using other OS's - but like the ipod, Apple have got in first and set a standard.

Meh, the iPad itself is merely an overgrown iPod Touch. Apple duped a few million of its lemmings into buying into 'its new and different and awesome and you cant live without it!' mantra, but that's par for the course, it's still just an iPod Touch with an enlarged screen minus the fit-in-your-pocket feature.
Yes, it is just a big ipod touch - but that's a plus point
As an iPad owner - stop laughing at the back - it has totally replaced my netbook in the house,
for web browsing, pressreader, email and yes - playing silly games
but it will never really be suitable as a laptop replacement for real work, spreadsheets or bashing out long essays.
..and I still need the netbook in my briefcase for general purpose use - iPad is too focused to replace it there.
My iphone gets much less use than it used to now too - that's now only really being used as a phone and much less as a browser/ game/email device.
