Drooooooool*
.... though the age old problem with thin laptops and powerful (ish) gpu's = HEAT! The HP envy 15 was notorious for being a burner, though I'm sure this is better it is interesting that it was so much an issue for you to mention it in you review. Thanks for another great review, keep up the good work guys!
Having recently bought the XPS 15 L502X I can say that the 1080p panel is excellent, much better than on my other laptops (even ignoring resolution) with superior viewing angles and more vibrant colours. In contrast, the 1366x768 option is, quite frankly, meant to be poo in comparison.
Looks nice, pity about the Blu-Ray drive though.
Did you not try to run it on Linux? Should not have been too hard with a dvd slot and usb ports?
I would like to see all reviews include an account of what and does not work with e.g. a knoppix, debian, or mint live boot disk.
No USB3 either. Shame.
I don't remember reading a review of a new laptop where the reviewer decided to try out even the one version of linux, let alone three, to 'see what worked'. I hate to say it, but I don't think it's important to the overwhelming majority of people, and therefore not worth spending (a significant amount of) review time on.
Plus, the latop has two USB 3 ports...
very fair review and overall im a little disappointed, i thought dell might have been on to something but as usual im proved wrong. If they really wanted to compete with apple they needed a better screen and options for SSD.
Im a little concerned over this illusion of apples build quality being a huge step above the rest and in most cases a yardstick to which others are compared, im yet to experience this myth in reality. Apples laptops dent, scratch, break, peel and all other manners of frustrating reality... i should know i have been an owner of one for 4 years! Maybe the Uni-Body ones took a massive step forward, although i seriously doubt it.
