People will still buy it and say "oh never mind" when they realise it doesn't do what it says. Obviously Apple should have been consulted before 3GPP defined the radio spectrum.
What kind of rubbish radio hardware do they have that they can only support those two frequencies?
Who gives a monkeys. By the time 4G is rolled out in the UK no doubt ipad 4 or 5 will be here. Also by the time the UK mobile operators try to screw the consumer with mega high costs for 4g and limitations, no one will be interested in the tech for many years.

It is because the 4G networks in the UK are not advanced enough for the revolutionary iPad3.

The "cost effective" kind
TBH it would be pretty pointless for Apple to include a UK 4G model here - we don't have any real 4G coverage at the moment and are not likely to see it properly rolled out for 12 months at the very least. I'm not expecting my next phone to support 4G networks, I'd expect the one after that to offer that kind of support.
By that point there will have been another 1-2 generations of the iPad, which will no doubt have a UK spec version that will work on our networks.
It's dodgy marketing - you would think that on the Apple UK web pages they could adapt the text to make it clear, but most of the advertising is aimed at their biggest customer base in the USA, so it makes sense that the headline figures advertise features in those markets.
Microsoft are even worse than Apple with this kind of stuff - they have released Windows Phone 7 here (and in particular the Mango update), which is largely crippled because of it's tight Bing integration...they just forgot to tell us UK users that the vast majority of good things about Bing (and there are not many, thats for sure) just don't function in the UK. This is despite them being on the website and even listed in the user manual.
The fact that Bing is useless even at searching is another, completely separate issue
It's ticking me off this 4G business though, it's becoming possible to use it in some cities on trial or if you travel abroad.
Phones are already fast enough to use it as they have 4G variants so I want to be able to use the phone I purchase now on 4G and not have to lock myself into needing a new upgrade in a year's time as it isn't possible, if you want a great deal you need a 24 month contract, by which time 4G will be long since launched, the time for deploying 4G in devices is now, not as the service launches.
Hahahahahahahaha. Nuff said.
Actually, reasons like this are why I dont buy a 1st iteration of a new design. Will wait for the next revision of this likewise I will wait for the iphone 5S rather than get the 5.
I dont personally enjoy spending 400+ pounds to be a beta tester
Utter hilarity through marketing. Careful wording in and side notes can go a long way to cloud the issue
This kind of behavior may come to haunt them at some point I would presume...
"You aren't connecting to the network properly!"
