That 6800K looks like a solid budget buy. Guess I just found my upgrade path!
Yeah, looks like we might be about to get another Intel vs AMD MHz Race. Haven't seen a proper one of them since the days of P-III vs Athlon. I was all for AMD then, they had equal power to Intel, better pricing, and higher clock-speeds to boot.
All we need now is for AMD to engineer a little more Performance/MHz, Power/Performance, and we'll have all we need for a whole new set of Fanboi wars on the forums
I'm sitting on an i7-920 just now waiting for just this kind of thing to happen. With a little luck, AMD's chips will be able to compete directly with Intel's again for sheer performance, the prices will drop, and we'll all be upgrading like crazy again
Don't expect a MHz race - clock speeds still aren't changing very much. There may be a slow increase over time, but nothing like we used to have.
No it's still VLIW4.
These chips are so bandwidth constrained anyway it wouldn't matter. The biggest gains will come from increased memory speeds or eDRAM with Kaveri and GCN at the beginning of next year. Richland is just a speed bump to make the choice over intels i3's a bit more obvious.
Basically with Richland, they have improved the cores slightly, they have changed the layout of the VLIW4 shaders to improve efficiency, and the CPU has improved logic which is better at allocating TDP between the CPU and IGP. It seems that an improved version of Turbo Core is used, which is also temperature dependent IIRC.
And still no decent FM2 ITX board to put one in....

Depending on how you feel about Asrock, this could be the board.

What will be the best discrete card that you can pair with these processors in a hybrid crossfire set up?
and
Will 3-way crossfire hybrids be possible with Richland? (onboard gpu + 2 discrete gpus)
I would assume it will still be the 6670 max, as for 3-way that's doubtful and drivers would be so bad anyway I wouldn't bother.
