Been waiting years for something like this!
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
"leading companies could hope for even more frequent upgrades by users"
updating a phone I get, updating a watch tho? can see the novelty wearing off very quickly
What if you already wear a nice watch? Want me to ditch it for this? Digital watches were never in fashion, and neither will these be.
Got to be better than the Sony smartwatch I've got stuck in a draw! Connection over bluetooth was really unreliable so gave up on it. Wonder if samsung are planning a similarly dumb device and have fixed the connection issue or whether it'll just be a 'lite'/small smartphone that will just sync with the phone in your pocket and clip on your wrist?
I think fashion accessories trying to be the next best thing in tech are a bad idea. That said, with the big 2 smartphone companies pushing it, I suppose we MUST have it..
I bagsy the patent on iBrooch. And iBadge.
Not everyone buys tech as a fashion statement (except maybe itards) . I bought my S2 then S3 on it's specs + the OS and happened to like the looks aw well.. If the samsung watch works well has features I want and has ok looks I will buy 1
These aren't exactly a new idea.

This is no big surprise really - Pebble has already shown that there is a desire for such a device, but it's not something that's mass market ready (or really ready for *any* market right now) which leaves a nice opening for Apple and Samsung to launch their own version. Samsung also have their own watch-phone devices already on the market, so it's not that new to them as a concept. I think it would be a mistake if they went down the phone route though - a tightly integrated companion type device is much more sensible.
It feels very much like both Apple and Samsung are letting Pebble do the beta testing and make all the mistakes, so that they can swoop in Q4 and release their own polished, tightly integrated devices that will kill Pebble stone dead.
We'll see how it plays out this year though - whatever happens I hope it's not going to be released until at least Q4..I want at least a few months of usage with my Pebble before a new/better device is released (assuming Pebble ever get back on track with their production).
I will buy one when the battery on my seiko kinetic runs out.
like everything else it's an idea that needs the killer (or at least in the eyes of Joe Public) useage and/or application or perhaps marketing (think A**le). Once people "like" the idea then it's an easy sell if it hits enough right spots

I'd be happy if the battery life was sufficiant, or if we get to the point where I can dump all the devices onto the bedside table for charging without fiddling around with various cables and plugs.
Mind you, I still want a Pebble because it fills my main purpose of a watch, it looks good.

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
Smart watches in general just look so bulky and ugly, not something I would enjoy wearing.
