It's probably a way off yet, but I can see the day coming when you walk into a shop and the cashier/assistant waering something like this can look at you and get a facial recognition hit, and your personal details flash up on their screen, or glasses. This year? No. Next year? Doubtful. 10 years or 20 years? Very possible, if not likely.

One thing. If VA implement this, it assures I'll fly with some airline that doesn't. And yes, I know it's "upper", but about 70% of my flying in the last 20+ years has been either business or first class. Most of the other 30% has been on single-class routes.
Well it's a bit silly to claim it's for face recognition and the like, one of the main benefits of flying upper class is the ability to go through their own security. You drive straight to the terminal, they great you, escort you and take your bags away from you there, and your passport too.
They have all that information already.
The google glass thing isn't going to be for gathering data. It will be for ordination of their staff and the like.

If it's used for giving info to staff, ONLY for that, then fine. Problem is .... "if". I am VERY sceptical about function-creep in this area (erosion of personal privacy) not least because there's been so much if it already, almost all (if not all) without corporates bothering to tell us, let alone get permission.
So, Google Glass cameras can record your face, at the same time as they're processing your record. Can you guarantee that :-
- the system is not recording a face capture and saving it, even if nothing is done with it yet?, and
- even if it's not recorded today, that it won't be silently added after the pilot, or next year, etc?
- once faces are captured, that facility won't be used?
First, it'll be dressed up either as customer convenience (knowing who you are and having your records appear automatically), but sooner or later, IMHO, if they can add that facility, they will, and if they add it, it'll be used for generating revenue, not just saving 10 seconds while you tell them your name and they look it up.
And if this pilot works, you can bet your left gonad that VA doing it will be the very thin tip of a very large iceberg. It won't be long before everyone is at it, which is the point I made last time and why the bit about it being check-in and them having the info already is immaterial. VA have it, in those circumstances. Lots of others, like Tesco, do not.
Are they trialling GoogleNude, so they can look at passengers' winkles?
They look to modern and because it has a camera in it we will never know if one of them is taking a photo of a passenger or if someone is watching in and spying, they also look very uncomfortable especially for people who wouldn't usually wear glasses
I used Google glass a while ago and the battery life is terrible. Will only last an hour if that. It's a gimmick
