This keyboard still looks old, and does not have the media features of Corsair

Re: News - Razer launches mechanical keyswitch designed for gamers

I'd be very surprised if anyone can match the market leaders in micro/mechanical switches. All of the companies who sell lots of switches now have been in the business for a long time. Even throwing lots of money at it - I expect it would take a long time to match the quality of a cherry or alps mech switch or moron microswitch. I'd be even more surprised if it was cost effective. Sure, those travel curves might be better for some, but I've never heard of anyone saying they can't get used to normal mechanical switches (those that can afford them)

Truth is Razer downgraded from Germany Cherry switches to Chinese Kailh switches, and trying to make people believe that this is an upgrade.

Somehow this wouldn't surprise me in the slightest, their old products were fairly decent, I had the same mouse for 5 years, all of their newer kit I've used has felt like cheap stuff sold at inflated prices though.

What's more those lovely diagrams show just what "they" have done, lift the contact point up by about 0.2mm and maybe used a weaker spring to reduce resistance.

So yes that's really an "all-new" and "designed from the ground up"

I'm interested in the Orange switches though. I've tried mechanical keyboards before and whilst they feel nice, I don't like the sound they make as I generally don't have music playing in the background so I prefer a more quiet environment. Going from membrane keyboards to mechanical keyboards is a noisy job.

That's because it's designed for gamers and generally gamers don't care for the added media keys / features

Did you try MX Brown switches? How about with the O-ring mod? I'm fairly sure some Logitech keyboard come with them... people feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: News - Razer launches mechanical keyswitch designed for gamers

Expect to see many more of these supposedly revolutionary switches now that the Cherry MX patents have expired. Mighty suspicious timing and they do look exceptionally close to the Cherry designs...

I'll stick with my Vengence tbh, brilliant (quiet!) switches, great quality and looks, media keys, macro keys etc.

Not to say that more competition isn't a good thing of course - it is

Oh, I've not really researched extensively into mechanical keyboards so that does seem like a good option!

Saw this topic and the OP has exactly the same keyboard as me (Logitech Illuminated Keyboard) so maybe I will update one day..

This video seems to show how the MX Brown switches + O-ring mod sound and it does sound pretty quiet to me.

Re: News - Razer launches mechanical keyswitch designed for gamers

Sorry - I'm a gamer dating back to the days of the 6502 and having to type in hundreds of lines of assembly just to play pong, and hope that the tape recorder worked properly, and I'm still not buying this eSports 'Athlete' thing, or people that purport to build kit for them. Maybe devices that will prevent carpal tunnel and other repetitive motion issues would be more convincing.

And I can't take as serious any company that sells their gear out of WalMart.

This cannot be repeated often enough! Hopefully, no other manufacturer will decide to hop on the band wagon and accept Razer's "gracious" offer to share its "fabulous" new keys with them. I'm afraid, though, that hope will be mercilessly crushed. If there's a penny to be saved and a profit margin to be extended, then that penny must be saved and that profit margin must be extended, quality and customers be damned!

Tested and validated by "the world’s most demanding eSports athletes"

Hahaha. That is funny ("the world’s most demanding eSports athletes"). Yeah right. A bunch of socially inept fat guys in their bedrooms or basements, no doubt!.

Indeed the words "esports" and "athlete" seem contradictory and make me laugh when put together. All I can think of is the South Park Word of Warcraft episode. On topic though this just sounds like a load of marketing BS aimed at the gullible. Excluding cheap and nasty ones; a keyboard's just a keyboard IMO.
