Oh dear. Why did they launch at that res? It's not going to wow people with just the curve to tempt them...

Agreed, I was expecting at least WQHD (or 120hz - especially if being pitched at gamer)

Re: The curve - basic logic would suggest that if their reasoning re: curvature keeping the screen edges of the screen in better focus for the eye (at a fixed focal distance etc.), then the curvature should form an arc of a circle centred around where they think the viewer should sit. Given the gentle arc as clear in the pic of the three-monitor setup, how far away from their desk would they expect people to be sitting. More realistically, either something got lost in translation or the whole curve/focus thing is marketing BS.

I think the choice of resolution was in order to facilitate a three-screen system, as shown in the lower photo. The curve extends across all three monitors...

I know what you mean about the wow factor at that res, but not everyone has the budget to game at the highest resolution, and not everyone has the eyesight to view at it either.

I'm currently gaming on a Dell 3008WFP, and I'm only a short arse, I struggle to get the best viewing position and my 3770k/gtx680 struggle to get anywhere near playable at max res!

thats because your GPU cannot handle this resolution, SLI it and you will see a massive difference, i have GTX 770 SLI and i play @ 2560 x 1440 on Qnix 27" and i can always sustain 60 FPS min on every game maxed out.

Surely I can just sit on my current 27" monitor for a while and bend it, it works with iPhones.

Re: News - Samsung SD590C curved 27-inch monitor goes on sale tomorrow

It's not good to release a 1080p 27" into the market right now... QHD at least! PPI is far more important than a slightly curved screen...

Re: News - Samsung SD590C curved 27-inch monitor goes on sale tomorrow

Has anybody noticed that the "wider field of view" drawing places the equivalent flat monitor behind the curved screen, not in the same plane as the front-centre of the screen? This might seem trivial, but it nearly doubles the difference - shame on you Samsung.

I'm really not sure why these curved screens exist anyway... I mean I know what the manufacturers say... But I'm not sold on it at all... Seems like another fad... I just want to see high res screens come down in price

Filling your FOV can have a much more dramatic effect than more pixels. You only have to try a super low resolution first-gen occulous rift in 2D mode to see how immersive it can get.

I'm not after that though... And I'm sure most who are would rather have more pixels on a 27" than 1080p... I can see why you'd want to surround yourself too... But again, the ppi is too low for a 27" for daily use...

Really? I don't understand tbh. How exactly is it too low for daily use? What's going to be happening?

It's too big of a screen for that res for anything other than gaming... And even then...

I've had a 1080p, 27" screen for nearly two years now and have zero complaints....
