Our off-the-shelf sample was utterly stable at just under 2.4GHz, cooled only by the supplied reference heatsink. All it took was a slight rise in core voltage and a motherboard capable of scaling with the processor's heightened driven clock. Overclocked benchmark results were on a par with a standard Athlon 64 3800+, a processor that costs almost 4x the £110 3000+ retail price. S939 is soon to enjoy the performance benefits that SLI-capable chipsets can deliver, so faster CPU speeds become even more important due to the number of games that will become system-bound with a pair of fast SLI cards working in tandem.

just as I settle for a 939 90nm 3500+ you come along with a cheaper CPU thats a bargain and clocks like the mother of all clockers.

I would love to see the 90nm 3500+ put through its paces and clocked so we can see what we should expect from these as well

Now, do I get the 3000+ and just rampage the clock-speeds and spend the saved cash on more HDD's or the 3500+... Hmmmm I dunno what to get now

Edit: after further reveiw if you are using a 6800 ultra you can only use 2 of the 4 sata cables! I'll scratch this mobo off my list!

Epox are a well known name in the UK and have in the past made some really excellent motherboards aimed at the overclocking market. End of the day its a sufficent board for the test, it was the CPU on test not the motherboard, afterall this is the AMD Athlon 64 3000+ review

I think that you will find it's a problem with a no. of nForce3 boards when used with VGA cards with large hsf's & particularly 6800s which are that bit longer.

Dont worry, the overclocking abilities of the 3000+ are exaggerated, for every person getting over 260fsb, there are 4 or 5 struggling to get over 220-225.

3500+ can get to 2600mhz a lot easier.

(I have a 130nm 3500+ and a 90nm 3000+, 3000 runs at 9*250)

I'd suggest a 3200+ to get the 10x multiplier.

A 600MHz overclock is atypical of current Athlon 64 Winchester 3000+s, and I see very little reason why you can't at least replicate what's been achieved in this review.

Great price that is. If it continues to fall after chrimbo I am going to get very tempted. And I promised not to upgrade until next summer after splashing out on a 6800 .

I'll have to defend our goodselves here and state we aren't a crappy brand!!

We always strive to manufacture quality boards at a quality price. We don't make cheap rubbish, but at the same time don't aspire to go balls out on IC features when enthusiasts need performance. Any review that you can read here or anywhere else will always state the same. Perhaps a particlar board lacked Firewire or something, but at the same time overclocked like a god.

Tarinder had the 9NDA3+ at 280MHz FSB - the same settings I left the board at when I sent it to him - I'd played with it for a few hours and forgotten to reset the BIOS - he picked it up, put his components in and flew with the same settings!!

As for the A64 Winny 3000+ 939 sample I had from AMD, it careered to 2.76GHz on waterchill, I have only replaced it with a 4000+ (lacking SSE3) due to the fact my performance out leverages the extra feature set due to the fact it runs upto 2.9Ghz on water with Asetek Waterchill at only 48 degrees peak. I know I impress Dave with my 3Dmarks a lot of the time!!

As for the cabling aspect - it is possible with the supplied cables without horrendous bending.

this review inspired me to clock my winnie 3200+

it clocks like a dream, tho ive only put it up to 2.3 (damn ram) it went there with no troubles and with no vcore adjustments with standard amd cooling
