Nice looking monitor and the price looks reasonable. But 40", that's not a desktop monitor, that's a living room TV! (And as such I've got no chance of persuading the other half to let me upgrade).
If they could have done a 24" version for £300 (or less) then I'll dig out the credit card now...
24" for 4K is virtually unusable unless you're using scaling.
This is staggering, really. VA, 4K, and £549? I would never had predicted this was coming so soon.
OK, so the screen is very large, but it means that you're getting 4K at a standard DPI of 110 (just a shade higher than 1080p @ 21.5"). This ought to be very popular.
So tempting! Think I'll wait for a 4k 30" though and for Windows and partners to full sort out scaling, probably a few years away unfortunately...
...although the idea of playing Elite Dangerous on this @ 4k is making me drool
This is ideal and the price is good. This provides the screen area and resolution of a quad-1080p monitor setup, without any bezels - and you can sling your chair back to watch a movie if you want to. In fact it's a veritable bargain.
It's a 4K monitor, but it's not retina/hidef or whatever the term is. It'll be a little crisper than a 24" 1080p monitor, but not by a lot - unless you scale the desktop up and sit further away.
A 36"-ish version would be nice - slightly smaller, slightly crisper. And maybe extra DP and HDMI inputs.
I find myself thinking .. so I have a 3x1 1920x1080 setup now.. could I use this to get a 2x2 1920x1080 on a single pain of glass...
Anyone know if This is do-able ?
"If it sounds to good to be true it probably is"...
There WILL be a catch, if a 32" @ 4k IPS monitor is ~£1400, 24" 4k IPS is ~£700 and the 28" 4k TN panels are ~£500. And a VA 32" 2560x1440 monitor is ~£500 then a 40" 4k @60hz VA monitor would NOT be £550.
If the specs weren't listed I'd have immediately said that it probably runs at 30hz, however it does state it runs at 60hz at full 4k so it's not that. It has display port so it's not that and it's VA (not TN) so it's not that.
I'd highly suggest waiting for the reviews before shelling out for one, you wouldn't get a display with those specs at that price second hand let alone brand new so there will be a giant glaring catch somewhere.
Not good,its 8bit - for ps4 will work
Holy smokes!!!
This is almost exactly what I've been waiting for.
Size: CHECK! It makes 4k usable in Windows without scaling.
Resolution: CHECK! It has the extra desktop real estate I want. I'll need a pair of 980's to drive it at 4K for games, but that I can do something about that.
Price: BIG FAT CHECK. Price is nothing short of astonishing.
The catch, and it's a big catch, is that the pixels are not 1:1 square. It makes the aspect ratio just slightly off. I work with photography and video, so this is a major deal killer for me.
Given the cost of 4K TVs right now, you could buy this, and attach a cheap HTPC to it!
I'm sending a letter to Santa!
