Ofcom says that UK 5G network isn't harmful to health

EMF measurements at 16 locations in 10 cities across the UK were tiny fractions of safe limits.

"Ofcom's recent research will probably butter no parsnips for a certain crowd" This sentence is outstanding and sublime.

Mmmmm buttered parsnips, have to do them in the oven though as there just isn't enough microwaves in the air to do the job...

Wonder if we'll be able to use the microwaves from 10G to power cars in the future, as long as we're all wearing tinfoil hats so it doesn't fry our brains first...

""the contribution of 5G to the total emissions level observed is currently low" Very reassuring, since there is vitually no 5g coverage in the UK as yet. There's also the fact that 5g requires many, many more base stations than 4g does.

I'll see your buttered parsnips, and raise you honey-roasted parsnips!!

Another sticks dweller here, so not worried about frying my brain along with my bacon... at least until they bulldoze our paradise to make way for another housing estate, with 5G antennae everywhere.

wonder if they note what manufacturer the 5g mast was, is hauwei less EMeffy that the others?

and how many people were using the 5g when they measured. the levels may get higher the more people are connected.

Except they were taking these measurements near the towers. Signal strength diminishes by at least the inverse square of the distance, so if the signal is weak when you are next to one tower it's not going to be much stronger if there are a few more towers further away. You get problems even 'hearing' a weak signal far away if there is a strong one closer. Its called the near far problem and one of the reasons 5g has more towers is to have have more weaker towers nearby do they don't have to have a few powerful towers that would have too high strength next to them and still have poor signal further away.

As ever when it comes to complex infrastructure, if as a layman you instantly understood a potential problem you can rest assured that the experts who build them were also able to recognise that issue. No one responds to being told they need surgery by explaining to the surgeon what the problem with cutting into a conscious person is, they already know and have a solution. I work in the smart meter sector and have the same thing: if my bill goes over the air people could read it... Never heard of e2e encryption clearly!

Its depressing this needs to be said. I swear everyone thinks they can read any old garbage on the internet and suddenly they are an expert. People used to believe going more than 10 Mph meant you couldn't breath!

Back on the subject I'm still waiting for a decent 4G signal in my small town - I'm happy for you to install 5G in my area!

    I completely agree.

I have to wonder though if there was a challenge made in the HEXUS offices to see if mentioning buttered parsnips could be inserted into the story in a way that makes sense.

Either way, I welcome other such lines as it enjoyably spices up the article as a whole.

This is like when mobile phones first came out. Having a mobile phone in your pocket would make you sterile and your bollocks would get cancer and fall off.

I can't see why the EMF would be a problem, but...

From the number of mobile phone zombies I see zerging erratically along the paths whilst staring at the latest kitten video on their smartphone I sometimes wonder if dropping back to 2G might force people to actually look where they are going and could prevent accidents.

Although if the phone was capable of informing the user that they are wandering onto a road or cycle path I suppose that would help. If it could also tell them to choose a bleeding side of the path and stick to it so other pedestrians can get past, preferably adding that flailing their arms around in animated conversation in a crowded area isn't making them friends either.

It isn't, but someone always has to be a scaremonger.
Why let facts get in the way of a good conspiracy.
These things only ever need one person to declare something being true for other people to listen, and repeat it.
Evidence never required, yet it will be defended so strongly as if there were plenty.
