I like the idea of video capabilities, but still being forced to use iTunes and its DRM would put me off. Lets see what the competition have to offer first
New Sig on the Way...
I like the Video one - but why would someone get one of these over a PSP?
Indeed, as Matt stated here, in the amazing offer: http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=57124 (*shameless plug for hexus )Originally Posted by David

Apple are going to have to pull something special out of the trick here, current iPod screens arent big enough for particularly long video watch tbh. Podcasting footie matches and things might be popular though
First, would u want to watch a film on a tiny screen? Second, could u stand the rubbish 14hr battery life? Third, could u stand looking like a chav?
No, sony rules

But the psp only has a 4 hr life for playing films and at maximum only a 4gb hdd! People will watch films on the psp happily, although the screen is better. And why the hell would watching video on it make you look like a chav? I find your arguement flawed.
That may be because my wife won't let me have my psp until my birthday though!
Not around too often!
Anyone ever heard of Archos before? My first MP3 player when no one even knew what one was. Check out there site for some cool players
The new creative one looks cool as well, especially with a 640x480 screen. Yum.

Does anyone know if the ipod range is capable of playing albums yet?
And video on an ipod just makes me what one even less, i'm not really sure why though..
They need to get thier audio playback 100% perfect first before i would concider buying one.
I bet someone has already come up with 'vidcast'. Anyone checked website address's are worth buying, like videopodder.com or something?

I have to say I have been thinking, I fancy one of these units... just the price gets me, maybe I will sell my Gen3 one and contribute to costs.
I would have a Video over a Nano for sure.
Must fight the temptation...
This is a big bargain. For what I would have paid for my 4th Generation ipod if I hadn't picked it up in the U.S I can now have a 30 gig player, with larger screen, video playback, photo playback and slightly longer music playback.
Well yes please, infact I ordered as soon as they appeared on the apple site. This is a 'hybrid' pod and a version with a fuller larger screen should appear next year (I'd presume Marchish) along with the launch of a full movie download store. For now we're going to see mainly TV episodes and and short films.
Interesting to see the Itunes store is currently updating bit by bit adding all the video content. I'll be interested to see how easy it will be for me to move across my legally purchased DVDs of Lost rather than pay £1.89 an episode (which is reasonable value, but £1.89 for a fricken music video? commmmonnn!).
Yes I did go for the black version. This device is more practical than carrying your PSP around with you and will prove to be the bigger hit thanks to the easy to download video content. I only hope someone introduces a program to convert content to ipod friendly 320x280 MPEG 4 formats. Also mentioned was the fact that movie trailers should be downloadable but this doesn't seem to have appeared straight away.
Atleast now we know why they stopped updating the free music video section mid year.

It was on News24 and 6Music News once last week then nothing. The next day it was denied as a mistake. Lo and behold here it is
might have been tempted is it was the same dimentions as the iPod Nano but with a 16:9 screen along it, that would be sweet......yet rather pointless probably....
Looks nice, I like the new black style Apple are going with, though a black dock and remote wouldn't go amiss. It seems pretty good value considering, the nearest I know of are the Samsung YH-J70 (30gb not out yet) and the iAudio X5. No usb OTG, but you get those little adapters for your camera. The iPod is £40 cheaper than the X5 30GB from Komplett.co.uk. Like I said you loose usb OTG and FM Radio, but gain a click wheel. For £170 you could get a J70, but you loose 10gb of storage. Sure in other areas the iPod is well beaten, but it's not like you are paying over the odds.
