HEXUS has managed to run a complete set of benchmarks for two speed grades of Intel Conroe CPUs in our HEXUS labs - guaranteed free of bias - and we've
compared their performance to the Presler Extreme Edition 965 and, uniquely, to today's baby from AMD, its Athlon 64 FX-62.

Competition is wonderful. Hopefully AMD will now have more incentive to make progress and/or start going back the the lower prices they had a few years ago. Not to mention Intel should have some great chips. It'll be interesting to see if Merom is relitivly as great as Conroe.

However, I can't fail to be astounded by those benchy results They are some of the most significant 'wins' I've seen in a long while.

It's going to be tough to pull myself away from AMD. But with results like that, looks like i'll be heading back to Intel.

With regards to price......who knows. I wouldn't like to put a figure on that.

I think eating in with the missus for a month or so should gather enough money for an upgrade..

I'm playing with fire here.. Gosh.. why are 975X board sooo expensive... Anyone know whether Intel's coming out with a Conroe compatible board that doesnt have 2x16x PCI-E slots?

The new Nvidia 500 series intel edition motherboards sould support conroe. The mobo's should be coming out soon - but i'm not to sure.

Any more info on these boards? if they're going support SLi and they're out soon then I'm completely sold and I'll wait until Conroe arrives before upgrading.

TBH, I wasn't expecting great numbers from AM2, and I'm not surprised that Conroe's got a performance advantage. All AM2's done is move the same core design over to DDR2, and DDR2 hasn't been a performance booster for any platform. I'm glad that Intel have come back strongly - I think they were getting too comfortable with the idea of competing on market dominance rather than performance. That said, I'd expect AMD to come back at least as strongly, but probably later this year.

I'd be really suprised if the SFF Athlon X2 and 64 turn out to be superclockers..

35W TDP... has alot of potential if u ask me..Throw in a DFI baord, 11x multi for the 3500+... Could be the next super-Venice..
