Bono gets involved in gaming politics

Bono may be wise to keep his head down during the controversy surrounding Mercenaries 2.

As Managing Director of Elevation - Bono's Right Out Front

I imagine Bono wishes he could keep his head down on this one. Unfortunately, for him, he is listed as the Managing Director of Elevation Partners, the firm that invested $300 million in Pandemic/Bioware and that owns "Mercenaries 2"

The gaming is not the issue. The issue is that the game depicts real life scenarios in which thousands of innocent people will be slaughtered so that the Empire can rule Venezuela once again like a plantation and treat its natural resources as if they were owned by U.S. corporations. Keep in mind that our tax dollars have fueled Pandemic which developed "Full Spectrum Warrior" for the U.S. military as a training tool. These are not "just games".

hmm maybe bioware are on too something

at least they are in touch with what's going on and are producing a game based on possible events not just another ww 2 shooter.

at the end of the day its just a game people get far too worked up about these things always blaming the gaming industry. Just like people who blame the hip hop industry for so called gang violence

next we will have david cameron either saying hes a gamer because its cool or slating various games for being the source of all evil.

I'm sure hes doing it for publicity, look at how much publicity hes getting his game, heh heh, got to love it eh?

Meanwhile, Im a level headed and very sensible person, and I'm currently replaying Full Spectrum Warrior and can honestly say it one of the best games ive played in a long time.

But alas, I don't care much for Bono, I don't have much of an opinion of him but I appreciate his input to the gaming industry regardless of what anyone else thinks.

Who cares that he may profit from a computer game? If he was going to profit from a real invasion of Venezuela then that would be a story.

the issue is that the game depicts real life scenarios in which thousands of innocent people will be slaughtered so that the Empire can rule Venezuela once again like a plantation
How does that depict real life scenarios? Presumably in the same way that Half Life depicts the real life scenario of aliens teleporting to earth?

Yes, Valve got it very wrong there. All the aliens I saw teleporting in were blue.
