Register new phone?

Allreet peeps!

Bought a new phone (Nokia N95, best phone I've ever had! the amount of features are amazing!)

Anywho, it was locked on orange, and as I was on orange with my previous phone i just switched the sim card over, and all is good. Anyway, is it worth ringing orange up and registering the new phone? or is it done automatically? I'm wanting to do this so if it is nicked or something then I can get it blocked.. do I need to let them know my IMEI number or will they know this automatically?

Did you buy it from them, like, as an upgrade or something? If so I would have thought they'd know about it, probably.

Nah bought it off eBay. Was an 'unwanted upgrade'. Pretty much brand new for £280, locked on Orange (i'm an orange customer anyway though).

It is an amazing phone though, the amount of features are amazing. It even has a bloody barcode reader built in!

The orange systems will 'known' the IMEI of the handset you are using, assuming you have done something to connect to their network eg made a call - it see if it's 'stolen' or on the barred list.

As a matter of interest did you ring orange and ask they if they could do any offer on the N95 (been a valued customer etc)

Your probably better off registering the phone in your name. Otherwise, if the seller ever wanted a new N95. They could phone up and say that its lost resulting in your phone being switched off, it just gives you that extra protection.

@manwithnoname: Oh ok cool. No I didn't, I've gone through an automated system before though and they said I'm not entitled to any upgrades..

@Grm: Hmmm, well I don't see why they would ring up saying it is lost.. but it may be worth registering it anyway I suppose..

People trying to cash in on something. Its an expensive phone. Easy money to some people that like to rip people off.

Gave 'em a ring today. Said its all fine and I don't need to do anything, but just to make a note of the IMEI number so if my phone is ever nicked then I can report it by just giving them the number.

Nice fella gave me 30 free picture messages too.
