Funnily enough, I woke up to find a system update waiting this morning, I let it do its thing but I cant actually see any difference...
anyone have any clues about that?
Got mine this morning. It's the RC33 update and updates the firmware to 1.1 (This seems to be the American versioning, ours will show R9 with a version number of 128600 and firmware 1.1)
Basically it add's voice search, google latitude so you can see where other g1 users are in the world (I have the gps crap turned off so I don't use it in order to save battery) and the only other thing I have noticed is that it adds something in your menu called Sim Toolkit. Not much in it, it's basically T-Mobile adding lists like their other phones with links to t-zone and music and news etc etc. Basically a interim update to keep the phone upto date. No news on the new "cupcake" update.
This is all I know about this update from reading about.
From reading it seems this is what's in this update:
- Google Voice Search.
- Save attachments in text nmessages and MMS. (Save pictures from MMS to your phone or text attachments via the long press command)
- Fixes the Reminder option in the Calendar. (This works now, I get the reminders)
- Check for updates. (Can manually search for updates for the phone)
- Can tag comments as spam in the marketplace.
- Installed apps in the marketplace will say "update available" if there is an update.
- Google Latitude on the Google Maps app for showing location of others in the world with it on their phones.
- Fixes WiFi disconnects from forcing IM service to log out.
- Fixes the device from locking up or sticking at the G1 start up screen when initially powered on.
- Also added to the release is a way to call out spam comments in the Android Market - From the Home screen, open the Applications menu. Tap Market. Browse to and view an application’s comments. Tap and hold the offending comment. Tap Mark this as SPAM.

Cheers Grey,
I am Rc9 with FW version 1.1. I can see the manual update button but can't see the sim toolkit or the voice search options anywhere (expecting it within the browser search or the 'desktop' widget)

Wow cheers
Apparently I don't have any of that though, I wonder if it's just me? My phone details appear to be exactly the same as you as well.
Mine did this at first, seemed to update with all the version numbers but then nothing different. Two days later I get the message "update ready" so set it off. Make sure you are in a decent 3G area when it does though as it grabs the updates on the fly over the air and the first time it ran on G it almost took 40 minutes to grab it so I cancelled and waiting till I got a solid 3G in town and it took around 3 minutes. Once it's downloaded it will then go off and restart the phone then flash the phone there and then which is another 5 minutes or so.
Don't be worried about the update though as T-Mobile are pumping it out over the next 2 weeks instead of doing everyone at the same time

Sorry for bumping an old thread but it seems there is another update coming down this morning, my phone is in the process now of updating itself, anyone know anything about it?
EDIT: Scratch that just seen its the cupcake release finally. So we should have all the features they promised like video recording an the like. Has a nice nifty new start up screen to Be prepared though 80% of all the apps I have downloaded from the market place are needing updates so its hammering the 3g atm
