You are not charged for using wi-fi. Whoever told you that needs to go over the training course again

Well, I'm 99.9% sure she's wrong There's no way they could justify charging you to use your own WiFi connection.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

I don't fully understand what I'm being charged for TBH, using my phone to connect to my wifi connection and use my bandwidth?

But regardless it seems they will monitor useage using this and charge you accordingly unless you have the 'Wifi' bolt-on as well as the 'Web' bolt-on. Both of which cost £7.50 each on top of your normal contract charge.
Hi, Im quite shocked their charging you for using your own wi-fi connection, all mobile charging is down via the sim which sends the billing data down a signaling layer (same layer that sms use) When you make a connection, be it GPRS, HSDPA ect you are charged for the amount of bytes you use, this is all controled and billed by the SGSN/HLR your connected to. I would imagine that this O2 service use's cloud hotspots with some sort of wi-fi application installed on the h/s which means you have been authenticated on their network which is how they are charging you for you wi-fi, it may even be charging you when using your own home/private wi-fi connections, my advice would be to get rid of the bolt on and the application and use the wi-fi as normal, connect to your home hub and surf away for free.. Lots of places have free wi-fi, no need to pay, plus your h/s is able to use Edge and HSDPA so between 20 and 50Kbps which is the same speed as mobile broadband and plenty of speed for browsing (the networks cap it right down, they adv 1.8Mb but you will never see it)
