Well i just got the LG renoir(amazing so far) and well im trying to get some games for it from lg website, sent me a link and wants me to download via the phone but i dont have free internet downloads(with vodafone) but i thought if i use wifi from my house it would be the same, just want to make sure its free because it says its connected to it but my router picks up nothing. Any ideas?

What IP is your router on? try accessing the routers config page, for example 192.168.0.1 (as that isn't a publicly accessable IP) from the phone. if that works, then it is using the wireless access as opposed to the mobile data.

Cant seem to access it, says host not found or something along them lines. It shows the netgear router when searching and says its connected successfully but still doesnt let me get onto the options for it. Any other ideas?
Sounds like it's not using the wifi for a data connection.
Can you turn off the 3G/GPRS data on that thing? that would force the phone to use wireless instead.
It is odd that the phone says it's connected but it isn't appearing on the router though. You are sure the access redentials are right?
Yep im positive, i think i may or narrowed it down though.... i dont have a proper browser, i have a "Vodafone Live" program to access the web, it seems they have taken the normal thing out. I will try and find a way to disable 3g now..
I found the solution!. Accessing the web i used the "widget" on the background, this went straight to the internet and i found going through the menu and then clicking vodafone live gave me some settings aswell as the standard browser, ive now set wi-fi as the normal. Cheers for the help.

I'm not sure about LG as well, but usually you must check if your phone has wireless connectivity. If it does then turn off 3G connectivity if possibile, and then try to find your wireless connectivity option usually under networks or connectivity in your menu, probbaly under settings. Then connect via that. Every company's OS is differnt, so I'm limited to help in that sense. Nokia's for example asks you when you open the browser whether you want to connect via 3G, direct internet (Edge I think), and wireless, or whatever other options you have. For the iPhone I remember you had to turn wireless on before any surfing was enabled, unless you had a 3G plan, which I didn't at the time, I had it jailbroken and was using a non-3G service.

Regarding your original question I have an interesting tale!
As you're aware I've just bought the LG Arena, on an O2 contract. I applied the 'Wifi' bolt-on for £7.50 assuming this gave me unlimited internet useage. This is wrong.
The Wifi bolt on gives me unlimited internet useage though 5000+ wifi 'hotspots' around the UK (but not full UK coverage). Hence if I connected through 3G i would be charged per Mb upto a max of £1 per day.
I was advised there was a 'Web' bolt-on, which is essential unlimited 3G useage, so I switched over to that. However I posed the question that if I connected through my home wifi it'd be free of charge surely. The answer, amazingly, is no. You are still charged for connecting through your own internet connection and downloading via your own bandwidth!
So make sure you have the right add-on package before you start doing heavy browsing on your Renoir, I'd accumilated a bill of ~ £2.50 in a few days light use of testing, which they kindly deleted from my account.
So the phone is reporting back the data downloaded from non 3G connections?
That is a bloody good reason never to buy an LG or sign up with O2.
Either that or the numpty on the phone doesn't have a clue what they are speaking about.
One or the other - although she did say the phone "reports back" even though it's connected through my router. She seemed to have a grasp of the set-up, thus I'm inclined to believe it's probably true. However I di intend to make a call to technical support to confirm this.
If true, this needs a much wider audience.

Have just rung customer services again, and it was like trying to get blood out of a stone to get a definitive answer, but the lady I spoke too said "I'm 99.9% sure you'll be charged for it"
I don't fully understand what I'm being charged for TBH, using my phone to connect to my wifi connection and use my bandwidth?
But regardless it seems they will monitor useage using this and charge you accordingly unless you have the 'Wifi' bolt-on aswell as the 'Web' bolt-on. Both of which cost £7.50 each on top of your normal contract charge.
That to me is outrageous.
Must be doing something wrong, no way could you be charged for using your own Wifi connection.
I have a Renoir on PAYG as my personal handset and have used Wifi on numerous ocassions with zero charges.
yeh im not charged on my renoir so its o2 thats ripping you off or its not setup correctly
