    N95 - replacement front part.

After a few years of good service, my N95 has decided that it no longer wanted to play ball.

First of all, the screen was displaying garbled multicoloured patterns, quite like Joseph's technicoloured dream coat.

Next, the screen started to only function once the phone was opened in the "fully open" slide position.

Now, after taking it apart as it's well out of it's warranty and looking at the problem, I isolated it to the ribbon cable that is connected from the mainboard within the phone, which then connects to the LCD screen.

I've checked a few places for this part - All I can find is replacement LCD screens ( which I already have 2 of )

Does anyone know off-hand anywhere which either sells the cable to replace the knackered one which is now frayed into 2 due to friction from being opened and closed when in use?

Any help would be great as I'm stuck with a retro K700i with a dodgy control stick

Re: N95 - replacement front part.

I've just noticed that they are called " N95 slider assembly " and found a few links

I've noticed that this is a common fault with N95 phones from using that term in google as well.

There's some on ebay, but don't want to link to any in particular as I can't say I've used any of the current sellers. But be wary of ribbon cables on their own, they're often cheap copies which fail even quicker, you've got the right idea in looking for the complete assembly as these are usually genuine pulls from used and working phones.

Re: N95 - replacement front part.

I got the front sliding system, data cable and everything for a measly sum of 9.99 from a seller on ebay who was based in manchester

Funny isn't it how Nokia repair centres wanted 40 odd quid just to look at the phone, yet with a bit of common sense, a little bit of screwdriver kung-fu and a steady hand things like this can be rectified in the space of 20 minutes.

The hardest part was getting the screws out of the screen part.

Re: N95 - replacement front part.

Those screws are mighty tiny. I've just "mazumamobile"d my Nokia N95 as it was beginning to have issues such as random restarting (not the OS). I suspected potential impending hardware failure, so it's off to Mazuma for a nice £90 (paid £180 for it about 2.5 years ago, not too bad). Served me well.

However, now I have a Nokia N97 and it's bloody gorgeous. Just a shame it doesn't allow VoIP calls via SIP just yet.
