    Question ovi maps update n97

i have a n97 nokia on vodafone, to say i havent had problems with the phone since i have got it would be a fat lie but this new one is really getting me.

recently nokia made ovi available for free as an update for my phone so when i tried to update iit kept coming up with an error message about my phone memory being full but there is 32 gig of space and the update is only 8mb is this common and if so is there a fix

The 32GB is your mass memory. The N97 C drive has limited space. Its a known issue with the N97. What you should do is make sure you have a full backup of your phone using the Nokia Ovi Suite. Then check for software updates for your N97 and install them, I think v20 is the latest for a Vodaphone branded one.

Then after that hard reset your phone (*#7370#). Restore ONLY your contacts from your backup. Then go to Software Update under applications and install required updates. If you had any custom applications download and reinstall them to the Mass Memory when prompted.

Also in messaging, under settings, other change the memory in use to Mass Memory instead of phone.

    HTH.

I know I am digging this thread up, but the first third of this video is good for optimizing the N97. While the guy hasn't quite got an easy voice to listen too (nor is anything like Brad Pitt to look at) the info he gives is pretty good.

It’s a great move, but far from “game-changing”, that’s for sure. Pessimists could say it’s typical Nokia M.O. – moving to offer something after the competition, and in this case, Android Maps – but it’s still a welcome gesture.
