    Phone Apps, Their access to information

    Anyone else slighty worry about the rising trend at the moment for apps for smartphones to be able to transmit data to remote servers as they've talked about at this discussion ;

    http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=19200

    I'll admit the only none google applications I've got installed are the usual social network apps, oh and robo defense tower (gawd...what a battery killer this is ) but what about those who install god knows everything free and half decent whos informations been gleaned from the devices they treasure the most.

    Don't you think it's quite eye-opening when you think about?

    At least Android lists the permissions that an app is going to have.
    My wife actually decided not to install a game recently becuase it wanted GPS location information. I am still concerned about the amount of data some of these apps want access to. When will Zone Alarm be ported to Android?

    Agreed, I always make sure I read the app's access list, and if it seems to unnecessarily ask for personal info or access to things like GPS I personally would at least do my research first. The kind of apps however such as the wallpaper app in question should never need anything other than a system requirement of changing the background image... So personally I don't particularly worry about what I'm installing.
