HEllo all!
I got just my iPaq today and sort of got GPRS working but it's set to port 8080. How do I set it to use any port. I.e. not tunneled through http? Want to get mail, msn working etc!
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Mike

Not sure i understand this. GPRS handshaking at the start of a session will do a few things. Its like DHCP on a mobile operator subnet, and will attempt to assign a IP address and depending on the implementation may ask to communicate on a specific port number. But that should be transparent to your applications as when you want to access the internet it should simply go via the GPRS connection. Maybe more information would help us understand what the issue is?...
What you have to remember and it might be why you are getting problems is that you are likely being assigned a internal network address, e.g 10.0.0.1, which means you will be unable to communicate directly with your device. Unless the mobile network operator has external addresses that map with a specific port number to your device. This again depends on Network operator.
Hope this helps...

IIRC, you can't on O2 PAYG.
Generally there's two access points for internet access on O2 - WAP GPRS for web-browsing and MOBILE WEB for e-mail and other stuff. Only the first is open to PAYG customers from what I've heard.
BTW, we have a mobile & PDA forum on Hexus.
If you wanna access the internet on the go with your PAYG mobile you'll ahve to use dial-up I'm affraid. Or go to contract.
