Spoofing SMS messages/hacking networks?

bit of an interesting one here..
Is it possible to spoof a SMS message? eg to show as it being sent from someone elses number (and allegedly accept replys too)? or for 2 mobiles with same number to be on the mobile network?

weve got a bit of an issue at work that abusive sms messages were sent from someones mobile, to several customers and collegues.. problem is, i had the phone in-front of me at the time they were allegedly sent (its not my phone btw ) the user had lost their phone the week before, so it had been barred, and a new sim ordered. i had the new phone and sim in front of me, and had requested its activation a couple of hours previously.. so that pretty much rules out it actually being sent from the users phone, as the old sim was barred, the new sim had only just been activated against that number. the text messages have apparently continuned for a good 12 hours later, some replies came thru to the new mobile, when i turned it on today, but apparently some people had replied, and then got replies back?!!!?

this is really confusing me, but is a major issue of slander, so the directors of the company are involved.

Yes, it's possible. The operator doesn't check the validity of the sender's return information, if I remember correctly.

Spoofing mobile numbers for text messages is very easy. Google is your friend
Getting replies is not as straighforward though.

Hmm, i would probably not like people to know about that. People could really abuse that.

Also, do they require YOUR real number? I could see a whole load of spam texts coming.

Dude that's not free, you get signed up for a subscription and get charged $5 dollars every month or something. Had a quick look and the T&C's.

I havent been charged anything yet, and i've used them for like 3 months now... and i watch my credits carefully... shrug
