    need help choosing a pda

ok, well im in the new market for a pda (for christmas) since my handspring visor prism is just a tad out of date!

i am currently looking at the Dell axim x51v or the palm lifedrive, i am used to palm os but i could probabally get used to PPC. anyhow, i was just wondering what you guys think, or perhaps you know of one that is better?

The PalmLifedrive doesn't seem to offer anything that a large CF card couldn't... Has always seemed a little gimmiky to me.

I'd plump with the X51v. I have the X50v, which is essentially identical, but the X51v ships with WM2005, as opposed to the older WM2003SE...

I find it to be a fantastic PDA... But I guess what's more important is what you intend to use yours for?

If you're looking for a non-phone PDA then it's hard to beat the value of Dell's PDAs.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Palm's PDAs. I can't believe that a 16-bit OS lacking true multi-tasking functionality could ever still be going in 2005.

you mean that one with the rotating screen? its a brick and has no wifi.... and did i mention the price? heh, sorry i just dont like it that much...

as for what i wanted it for? PDAing, watching videos, music, browing the net and preferably some games.

i was originally looking at smartphones, but none of them seemed as good as a dedicated unit, and none of them (except for rediculously priced ones) had 3g (or wifi for that matter), so i might as well just get a cheap bluetooth enabled 3g phone and pair it with the pda, plus, i have tried using my current pda as a phone (visors had a add on module) and it just doesnt feel right holding a brick upto my ear.

As an ex HP owner, i'd be inclined to agree with you...

The X50x series, though, swung me over to Dell

I think you might find it has got wifi And it can't be that much bigger than an X5xV can it?

odd, hmm odd, oh well, its still outside my price range

and actually, IIRC the x51v is only 16mm thick, while the xda exec is 21mm

    Personally I got a Dell x51v

I think its the best however it runs wm5 which has a few bugs (what new version of windows doesn't) if you google axim you will find a lot of useful info a few forums & you will see a few problems, but nobody wants to swap it so that says it all really the screen is amazing (vga) never seen better Ive hp ipaq but nothing comes close to the x51v in my opinion. I use it with tomtom 5.1 works a treat & of course as a PIM & mp3 player sounds amazing thru a set of Sennheiser MX500s its also good for videos wouldnt be without it.
    Digitizer.........

    Treo 650

which replaced my (aged) Visor Edge - brilliant,
toyed with a 600 for a few weeks, but the lack of bluetooth was a drawback - the integrated bluetooth makes using this with my laptop so easy.
