    Selling Contract Phone

Sorry if this has been asked before but I was wondering if I could sell my contract phone and use my sim with a new phone.

I have a v3 razor which im pretty bored with. And have been looking at a Nokia 8910i instead (i know that the nokia lacks functionality no camera etc. but with a titanium case and slide action on the handset think its pretty cool and does anything i want a phone to do ie make/ receive calls and sms)

So just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on the 8910i and what the legality of selling the contract phone is.

I imagine you'd need to read the small print on your contract and on the companies website for the answer, but generally I think that the contract phone technically belongs to the company you got the contract from until you've paid it off/come to the end of the contract, so technically selling it would probably void the contract. Of course they might never find out or care, but if they did want it back within the contract period for some reason you might end up out of pocket. On the plus side you should be able to use your SIM in another phone, so long as that phone is either unlocked or locked to the same network as your SIM. Then keep the V3 as a spare/backup...

Unless you've got a very unusual contract, the phone is yours to do with as you like from day 1.

If you want to sell it, then that's your choice. Generally phones will be locked to a particular network though and, unless you get it unlocked, only people on the same network as you will be able to use their SIMs with it.

hmmm, I guess you might be able to do what you want with it. Like I said even if you're not supposed to they probably won't check/care as long as you carry on paying your bills...

Luckily, being with BT Mobile, Mine fones are sim unlocked from day 1, though I've never sold any of my upgrades, as I've usually picked a fone I like. Having said that if I had a fone I wanted to keep I probably would be able to sell them on.

    As aaron said.

The phones yours from day one, so technically, you could have sold it the day you got it, you pay say 30 quid a month in line rental, thats not technically line rental but to pay for the phone and to cover the cost of the free minutes, say a 300 quid phone would be on a 25 quid a month tariff, you pay 300 quid (25X12) for the phone, and the operator give you the free minutes to tie you to the network so you make calls and make them money.

As lnog as youre 8910i is unlocked, or at least capable of taking your sim currently in your V3, go forth, and flog!
