    Alternative to Orange SPV M600

It's decision time for me as my 12 months with Orange is up. I could just go for the Orange SPV M600 but also have the option of switching provider. Are there phones equivalent to the SPV M600 provided by the likes of T-Mobile, Vodafone and O2?

Cheers, mate. I just phoned up Orange again today and they're willing to give me an SPV M600 free as an upgrade. That sounds pretty tempting!

There is always the option of a different type of "SmartPhone." I tested the SPVC600 for work and liked it. A lot. I recommened that we get it. Great for business except we found that in regular use it is slow, crashes a lot and is limited with ActiveSync on synchronisation of calendars etc.

I then looked at the deals for a personal phone and liked the looked of a "slider" like the samsung D600 but a bit more functional. I looked at the reviews of the Nokia N80 and fancied it. So I got 2 (one for Mrs HAK)

Really like the phone. Expandable (memory card slot on side.) Good Camera (better than SPV but still needs work) Great screen. Wireless (I can download MP3s from anywhere in house when I setup WMC on my PC/Netgear Router!) and a true Multi Tasking OS!!!

It also crashes a bit and is a bit slow to boot but is definately 10 times better than the SmartPhone.

    Hope this helps!

The T-Mobile MDA Vario is pretty decent. Slide out keyboard, Wi Fi, and their all you can eat GPRS product which costs between £5-£7.50 depending on whether there's a special offer on. Unlimited data on your mobile? Cracking plan. I've got my T-Mobile set up with Push Email so I get my mail wherever I am. It's great!

Well so much for a free upgrade to the SPV M600 from Orange. They promised one but still haven't delivered after several weeks.

It seems that they have plenty of stock for new customers but no stock for existing customers who want to upgrade. They were unable to tell me where I am in the upgrade queue and when I can expect my SPV M600. Their commitment to existing customers is not what it used to be, IMO.

I left Orange (who I had previously been with for years, and had the original SPV and E200 from them) and went to T-mobile since Orange's tariff's just didn't compete, and there was no incentive to me as an existing customer to stay.

Instead I'm on a big half-price monthly Web & Walk on T-mobile and I think their Flext tariffs are even better value. And I'm also using the MDA Vario and it's by far the most useful and helpful phone I've had. Not always brilliant, admittedly, but very very useful for the net browsing etc. that I do.

    So I can recommend that,

    DM

Don't forget the MDA Vario II is coming to the UK soon. Not to mention the recently announced HTC Artemis which bundles GPS and WiFi into one great slinky package. Sadly not due until Q3 but one to look out for.

The Vario II should be out tomorrow (16th August) by the looks of things...

I'm finally getting the Orange SPV M600 delivered this week. The phone itself was free but I had to sign up to another 12-month contract. So, all in all, not a bad deal.

I hope it works better with my PC than the SE K750i did!
