Don't feel any need for that honestly, it stays well cool enough and it's not loud PER SE, but it lives in the bedroom close by. Standards are very high there.

My machine is now getting back to back jobs on both cpu and gpu.

May retire soon, feel I have put enough in and do need to think about electric usage.

Just did a meter reading, wasn't as bad as I was expecting tbh given 3 machines folding on top of the family being at home using stuff all day every day.

Still getting warm in here though, so folding currently disabled.

Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home

Electric not too bad here but the heat is an issue. Can be controlled by closing the door and opening the window but I don't want to waste generated heat.

Was ok before as the heat by-product was useful where now its an issue.

I have decided next time I check and its not folding I will hit stop, right now both CPU/GPU going so will wait.

Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home

I decided to give this ago after a several year hiatus.

New build from last year - 9600K at stock and RX 5700 @ 2GHz

Both under water, with 2x 240mm radiators, fans spinning at 5v and the D5 vario at the second to lowest speed setting - dead silence.

GPU and 4c CPU folding takes the CPU up to 80°C and GPU to 70°C - both maintaining turbo clocks and everything looks to be running hapily.

Still a bit warmer than I'd like, especially the CPU which I don't think is far off from scalling back the turbo, and the tubing is getting quite warm and squishy so I dropped CPU folding for now. GPU now running at 60°C.

I noticed a variation of GPU WUs, some yield a daily average of 1.3M PPD and some 650k PPD. The actual daily average from getting a mix of the two nets about 800k PPD.

If I recall correctly, I made a bit over 300k PPD on my GTX 980 when I last had a proper stab at GPU folding in 2016-ish, a nice increase going from the 980 to the 5700.

  10. Received thanks from:

Sadly machine at home got rebooted, and here in Finland it's too hot to fold now. (Yes, really.) Taking a break for now..

Similar story here in sunny Sweden. Folding is a very seasonal hobby here!

Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home

Seen as it is getting cold again and Covid is still going I decided to see where things are in regards to F@H and came across this...

    https://foldingathome.org/2020/09/28...-cuda-support/

Up to 20% increase in performance on my 980Ti with the new CUDA support compared to OpenCL. Kind of surprised there wasn't already CUDA support given the prevalence of Nvidia GPUs and it is the brand I associate with F@H comapred to AMD.

Yeah, as I have electric heating, it's a waste for me to not fold now.

Thanks for the CUDA tip. I had to uninstall CUDA to get F@H to use CUDA ( https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?t=36167 ), but hopefully will get a little boost.

Bumping again as it has actually gotten cold now and it seems the fuse in my electric storage heater has gone (I think!).
