    Problem with routing on Server2k

I can get the server to route the net no probs with the built in routing and remote access service, but when i install Active Directory after about a week it refueses to route any more untill active Directory in removed and put back on. I have dun this to two servers and it does the same thing after a week, Any ideas about what might be happening ??

is the system running exchange as well ? you cant run exchange and RRAS on the same box as far as I remeber.

If you have an old Pentium II kicking about , why not turn it into a smoothwall/clarkconnect box to share the net with ?

I have my net connect as so: ADSL---ADSL router/modem---Smoothwall---Switch---network---server

now i have the server kicking out DHCP DNS and it has exchange2k on it. i havent put the routing on as yet cos i know i will have a prob with the active DIR in about a week. i want to set up a vpn with the built in services so i am gonna need to have the server IP on port forwading on the smoothwall.

Has any one else got routing and remote access service running and an active DIR server ?

you cant run RRAS on the same box as Exchange - you'll have to split the services or get hold of a copy of Windows 2000 SBS.

I'm looking for the relevent MS article at the moment

hmmm the bug may have been resolved by use of the latest service pack. Have you installed all the service packs ?

so you are wanting to run the windows box as VPN server....RRAs should go on ok, just make sure its not trying to use a 2nd network card or something like that.

Also check your DHCP scope and make sure that the RRAS address pool isnt nicking all of your DHCP addresses.

Also check the DHCP leases aren't infinite - causes problems when things don't release them.
