    Website Certificate Problem

    Hi all,

    I got my P5K deluxe on Friday and built my new system. Installed XP Pro, all drivers and everything fine, no probs at all (no more memory test hangs ). Did a huge Windows update (100+ updates) and now whenever a visit a secure website, like ebay, paypal or even hotmail I get this big warning page saying that there is a problem with the site's certificate, then I have to click a link that says 'continue anyway' or similar.

    I thought it was just IE7 but firefox also gives a certificate warning alert box. It has to be related to one of the updates, although all of these updates I've installed before on other machines without problem. There was one update to do with root certificates but it isn't listed in my update history.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Are the root certificates on your system? It sounds as if they are not, so you might be able to do a root certificate update manually.

    not sure if the root certs are on my system, the update root certs option is ticked in the add/remove windows components box if this is the same thing?

    How would I manually update them?

    Checking the update root certificates box should update them - you can see f they are installed on IE6

    Tools - Internet Options - content - certificates - root cetificate authorties

    Re: Website Certificate Problem

    Hi, I checked this in IE7 and there are loads of certificates listed in the box under certificate authorities...Some of the other tabs are blank though, like personal

    This is such a weird error, I've never had it before on any system and the same updates are on this machine as there were on my last...

    @nvening: first thing I checked

    Thanks for the reponses guys, this is one forum I know that I can rely on for assistance. Finally managed to solve this one, turned out to be my firewall, I must have blocked the certificate checking mechanism accidentally...

    Re: Website Certificate Problem

    Doh! indeed, it's just a shame I didn't think to check the firewall before looking up the KB ref of every single update looking for the root certs update!
